you sighed into the warm pre-summer air as you waited outside the nekoma school gym. in your hands were sweat towels and water bottles, ready for the volleyball players to come back from their team jog.
you could faintly hear kuroo's yelling at the lagging members of the team. a smile made its way to your face as you saw yamamoto coming over the hill and towards you, kuroo and inuoka slightly behind him.
"hell yeah! first one!" he called as he sped to a stop in front of you, taking his towel and water bottle from you.
"thanks, (y/n)!" he says as you pass kuroo and inuoka their bottles and towels. "yeah, no problem tora." you didn't miss the way his cheeks heated at the name.
kuroo smirked and nudged the 2nd year with his foot, causing inuoka to chuckle. "yeah, thanks, doll."
nicknames from kuroo, and some of the other team members, weren't uncommon, but even so, the way the rooster head said 'doll' ticked you off. wheeling around you slightly kicked the back of his knee, causing him to almost fall. soon yaku, kai and fukunaga came up to you, the rest of the team following behind. you handed each their water bottles and towels, besides lev, who had decided to collapse onto the grassy floor.
taking his towel you poured some of his water onto it and squatted beside him. placing the towel over his face.
"feel alright there, lev?" you asked the russian, who's answer came as a muffled 'yeah' filtered with pants.
"eh, leave him, he'll be fine, (y/n)." yaku said, taking his towel and wiping the sweat off his forehead. you scoffed, a small smile gracing your lips as you stood back up, walking up to kenma who sat on the stairs, scrunch-faced and panting.
"are you okay, kenma?" the blond nodded slightly, barely moving his head to preserve energy.
"okay, hun." you patted his head softly before collecting the now sweaty & used towels before yamamoto snatched them from you.
"you don't need to touch our nasty rags, (y/n)!" he chastised.
"it's quite literally why i'm here, tora, but if you want to do it fine by me." you chuckled as you collected water bottles instead, stepping over lev as yaku yelled at the silver haired boy. once you collected all the water bottles, the boys followed you into the gym, sweat still clinging to their skin as you set down their waters.
"oh, by the way, you guys, i'll be gone for part of summer break." you announced, causing each head to whip towards you.
"you're going to leave us? by ourselves?" kuroo asked, expressing each boy's thoughts.
"you can't leave me alone with them, (y/n), please." yaku was about to beg on the floor before you giggled.
"i'm sorry guys, i'm going to hyogo with my family for a little while." you explained to the horror struck team before you. "i'll be back before break is over."
"can't you stay here? you could stay at my place if you don't want to be alone!" Lev pleaded, scared to be exposed to yaku without you to calm him.
".. i want to go to hyogo."
"what's so good about hyogo?" kai asked, genuinely curious.
".. i could get a summer fling.." you muttered, not loud enough for any of the men in front of you.
"repeat?" kuroo urged.
"i could get a summer fling." you stated, loud enough this time for all of them, your cheeks heating at the confession. you could hear the silence loud as day before practically all of the athletes flipped out.
"wha– you– you can't leave us now!" yamamoto started.
"you're like my sister, i can't let some country boy steal your heart!" kuroo protested, holding you close to his chest, his stench filled your nose before you pushed him off.
"all of you, quit it." the boys hushed down, yamamoto still murmuring things under his breath.
"when are you leaving?" kai asked, once again being one of the only members of the team you could stand.
"tomorrow.."
"coach, she can't do that right! it's too short notice!" kuroo cut in before coach nekomata hushed him.
"she actually told me a week earlier, probably knew you boys would give her a hard time about it." he reproved.
"are we going to see you tomorrow?" shibayama asked, voice a tad wobbly.
"no.. i'm saying goodbye to you guys tonight, and it's only going to be a few weeks.."
"i think you're making it worse.." kenma chimed in, bringing attention to the way lev's lip quivered and each player had a heartbroken look adorning his face.
"come on guys! don't make me feel bad!" you cried, hugging yourself as guilt ate at you.
"and practice is over, so you all better clean up the gym and fast, so you can say goodbye to (y/n)." coach nekomata announced, leaving kuroo and you in charge as he departed for the night, wishing you safe travels.
begrudgingly, all of the volleyball players got up and began to clean up the gym. you began to pick up the stray balls and the boys got out the dust mop. you guys finished soon enough and you all met by the gym doors, the boys in a semi circle around you.
you'd felt emotion prick at your eyes, the surface of them glossing over a bit.
kuroo took a step closer to you.
"crying over there, doll?" emotion behind his teasing.
"shut up, numb nuts." you replied as you hugged him, his arms lacing around your back.
"can i get a kiss?" you rolled your eyes at his antics, planting a loud smooch on his cheek. you let go of him.
"well now you gotta give us all kisses." yaku scoffed, as if it was the most obvious thing.
"of course." you said as you hugged him, you gave his cheek a soft kiss as well, relishing in the way his cheeks heated up against your lips. you let the tawny-haired boy go as you turned to kai.
"you don't have to give me a kiss." kai, ever the gentleman. you give him a hug and a small kiss to his temple.
you slowly went around, not really wanting to say goodbye to all of them, even if it were only for a few weeks.
you finally finished saying your personal goodbyes. standing back in front of the boys you sighed.
"i'm coming back in 3 weeks, lev don't be a bother, yaku don't be too hard on him, i'm going to miss you guys." a pout rested on your lips.

"we'll see you then. alright everybody, time to lock up!" kuroo called as you all walked out. You waved at each of the boys as you got into your parents' car, as you felt tears pricking at your eyes, but you'd be okay, you'd see them in three weeks.
