Chase Snell. now that's a name Rose would never forget.
how? she already moved halfway across the globe, leaving behind no trace of her existence. how did he know where she was?
'Rosie?'
Rose immediately snapped back to reality. 'oh, sorry. well... i... i'm really not looking for a relationship right now, so...'
Rose turned back to her door, hoping to drop the conversation. as long as Lucille wouldn't expose her, he wouldn't know which house she lived in, would he?
Lucille laughed gently, patting Rose's shoulder. 'don't be so fast to reject him. i talked to him this morning! a charming gentleman he is, i told him about you, you two should really talk!'
oh.
Rose froze again, immediately brainstorming new ideas. she was upset at the thought of leaving this beautiful place that she just settled into, but he left her no choice.
'where, um, where does he live then?'
'just down the block! that house, right there.'
he was only a mere 200 metres away. she would have to leave tonight. no, she had to leave right away. he knew where she was. if he talked to Lucille this morning, he must've been waiting the whole day for her to get home.
'Chase doesn't know where i work, so he had to wait for me to come back,' she thought.
'Rosie, what's wrong?'
'oh! well, thank you... sorry Lucille, i have some chores to get done, i'll talk to you tomorrow?'
'alright, alright, i won't keep you. see you tomorrow!'
Rose watched Lucille slowly walk across the road to her house. she would miss this kind, old woman, even though they haven't known each other for long.
'she had the best intentions, i know,' thought Rose, 'but if only she knew...'
Rose watched Lucille close the door. there was no more time to lose. she ran inside her house, grabbed her emergency backpack in the store room, and got into her car.
'time to leave another place behind.'
