Haru POV:

How I would trade my soul to undo everything that happened. Jiro was a good friend. He didn't deserve this. No one does.

Jiro was my childhood best friend. We were together since we were 9, right when we got into 4th grade when I moved to the countryside. He was always nice to me, he was always there when the others made fun of me. He always told me, "If they shame you for something, it's something wrong with them, not you." I wish he hadn't given that up.

Let me give you a brief description of what he looked like. When I first met him, he had curly, blonde hair, cut into a bob with bangs. He was wearing the school's uniform, which he hated because it was the girl's uniform. He wore square glasses with thick rims, which he couldn't see without. Jiro was mostly treated superficially because he was kind-hearted and sweet to everyone he knew. I don't know why... Honestly.

Elementary school is a blurred memory, mostly. I only remember a vague image of our classroom and my colleagues. Middle school was a different experience though...

"Hey, Haru! Excited for your first day?" Jiro smiled at me.

"I'm quite nervous. I don't like new people." I told him. "They're so scary..."

"Come on, you'll be fine. You always have me! I will protect you if anything happens! At least, I'll try, heh"

I let out a small laugh. He made me feel better.

"We're in the same class, no?"

"I suppose. Mom didn't tell me anything, considering she was at work all the time. Also, have you noticed how hot it is?"

"Even for April, yeah. At least we won't melt. Right, Jiro?"

"Is- Is that the first time you called me by Jiro?"

"To your face, probably. It took a bit of practice but it's the least I can do for you." I smiled at him.

"Are you kidding me? Thank you So much I can't thank you enough." He almost started tearing up.

He ran toward me and hugged me tightly. Once he let go, we both laughed while running to the school gate.

"This is it. It's our new school. Oh God, I'm getting shivers."

"We're in this together. Let's go." I took his hand and walked through the door to our class.

It was classroom 10A and it seems like we got there pretty early. There was no one there except for a petite girl with long, black hair tied in a fish braid.

"Oh! Look at that, my first two students!" she exclaimed, clearly excited. "I'm Ichika Kimura, your class representative. Nice to meet you!"

"Nice to meet you as well, senpai." We bowed.

"So, what are your names?" She asked.

"I'm Jiro Chiban. A pleasure to meet you."

  "I'm Haru Nakamura."

"Wow, such names! Oh, here come more students. Well, talk to you boys later!" And with that, she left to greet the other students that came into the classroom.

"Well, it's only a matter of time until the bell rings." The bell rang right after Jiro said that.

"Good timing. Let's go to our seats." we stumbled to the row next to the window where we put our bags. Jiro sat to my left, right next to the window whereas I was left with no proper sunlight.
