Saint Luke Hospital

"Selene Howard Agustin" i heard from my senior nurse supervisor called my name, YES!! Finally! I been asking her like forever to put me in a list of nurses to be helping to go for medical mission in leyte, i saw what happen there, hurricane that hit there destroy everything, i cried i hope my college roommate is okay Janice is like a sister to me she's from leyte. "Yes Mrs Ocampo" i said smiling i just cant help it i was happy. "There! I hope you will stop asking me now you're going!" She said smirking. "Yes you did and I'm so thankful Mrs Ocampo this means a lot to me!" I said hugging her. Mrs Ocampo was like my second mother to me she's my mother best friend and my mentor. " just promise you'll be careful do not stray alone, the place is still dangerous i heard from the news a group of terrorists is hiding there and also take your vitamins daily you need to be in your at most health!" She said with worry eyes. "I know you don't have to worry about me, and for those bandits i think there will not stay long i mean US military is aiding us together with other volunteers from different countries, police and military will come and go, they will not take that risk" i said to her assured so she will stop worrying. She sign heavily "i hope you're right because if something happen to you you're mother will have my head on a Platter" she say rubbing her forehead."let me worry about mom okay?!" I said to her kissing her cheeks. "I have to go now i need to pack and get ready" I said waving my hand good bye. I went back to nurse station and finalized my work 15 mins lift until the end of my shift, i glad my reliever nurse rochelle is early so i can start my endorsement immediately. It did not take long to finish my endorsement, i gather my things and bid my goodbye to rochelle.

"Mom i home!" I shouted, i cant wait to tell her, i know were going to argue about it but she'll understand eventually. "Oh! Come on the kitchen dinners ready" mom shouted back from the kitchen, she's with dad. I sign heavily and prepare myself for war hahahaha oh! Boy god help me i said praying before entering the kitchen. "what's for dinner?!" I ask just to lower my anxiety at the moment. "Steam okra and some pork sinigang" my mom answered me without looking in my direction she's busy putting some plates on my side of the table. I set down looking to them both seriously, i waited for mom to set down before breaking the news. I tried to clear my voice "hmmmm.. am..m daddy! Mom! I have something to tell you and please try to understand and don't be mad and be calm!". I said to both of them not even smiling, "oh dear! Don't tell me yo...you're! WHO is HE!!". My mom saying while covering her mouth. I frown at her direction what she talking about and who's who!? " I'm what mom? And who's who!?" I ask her annoyed she easily jump to conclusions without even asking or knowing things. "You're not pregnant!?" Asking me."WHAT! of course not! Why would you even think like that!!" I was furious "really mom!? Pregnant!!! i don't even have a boyfriend!!" I said to her glaring at her direction, dad was just coughing hiding his laughter "don't blame you're mom if she think it that way i mean the way you look at us while talking about "try to understand" and "be calm", really honey!?" he said laughing at me again, i sign again "so! was is it you trying to tell us honey?" An my anxiety roused up again, my hand is sweating right now "hemp daddy you know since i took up nursing as my choice of career most part of it is to do community service i mean field work like you know going on medical mission like mom did long time ago!" I said catching my breath. "and do you remember Janice my college roommate, she's from leyte and leyte has been hit by a hurricane and we all know from the news it destroys everything, saint Luke hospital is holding a medical mission there and i was one of the chosen to come, please!! dad let me go there please this is my chance to do what always wanted to do and I want to cheek on Janice condition as well as her family if they are okay!". I said to dad pleading "NO! You're not ready yet you just got started working you don't have enough experience and you're still young to do this kind of work!!" Mom saying a little bit louder oh boy she's really fighting me on this, i position myself properly ready for my argument with her " MOM! I'm 23 years old, yea you're right i just got started, BUT! In that time i learn a lot of things aunt agnes teach me everything she's very patient and a good teacher to me, i been assign 2 weeks in every department to learn each process and guidelines, ER, OR, ICU, WARDS, NICO, OPD and dialysis department i know the process mom! Aunt agnes place me in every training held in the hospital, from phlebotomist, advanced cardiac life support, emergency nursing etc she even place as an ambulance nurse for a month, I'm glad she did all that i learn a lot of things...i grow up! My view as nurse when I graduated was simple but now its more complex, and now i have the great view of why you did all those things when you are still working as a nurse mom! And its awesome it's exhausting but awesome helping people seeing there happy faces even you help them a little for them its a great deal, hearing words like "thank you!" From them its like a very soft hand caressing you're heart very gently, i want to hear those words mom" i said to her i know I'm crying at this moment but I don't care. I stand from my set losing my appetite i held my chin up an say "I'm going wether i have you're permission or not, this is what i've always wanted and I'm doing it" i look at her wiping my tears away. I hear dad clearing her throat then he said "then do it! I know that someday my little princess will grow up and right now I'm very proud of you, you become a very passionate person" my dad said standing up opening his arms for me to give him a hug and i did I'm always a daddy's girl even i get old I'm still am. I hear mom long sign i know she given up and won't argue with me anymore. I smile secretly thanks to dad he always back me up and for that I'll make him even more prouder i promise.
