y/n was raised by a wizarding family, unlike Harry. Once James and Lily Potter died, a couple walked by when they heard a baby crying in the burned-down house. they ran inside to find little y/n crying inside. the couple looked at each other and decided to take her in. Since they saw y/n in Godric's hollow they knew she was a witch. they took her, walked outside the burned house, and then realized it was Potter's house. since they were ok friends with them they knew the name of the baby they were holding. they never saw y/n but have heard the news of the potter's having a girl and a boy.
Harry on the other hand as you all know was taken by Hagrid. hagrid couldn't find y/n and thought she must have also died with Lily and James. Hagrid informed Dumbledore that only Harry had made it out alive. Harry was sent to live with his uncle and aunt.
As the years went on, both Harry and y/n grew to the age of 11.
y/n grew up knowing that she was a witch as her parents taught her all about it. she was very powerful as what her 'parents' saw. y/n knew that she was not the daughter of Mrs. and Mr "smth". they told her when she was able to understand it. they explained what Voldemort had done to her. they told her about how she had a brother out there somewhere.
she as well as Harry both and gotten weird dreams about a flashing green light and a woman's scream. She had told her parents about it. they weren't worried about it and thought it must just be a random dream.
y/n had finally gotten her Hogwarts letter:

she screamed and showed it to her parents. they went out to diagon alley to buy the supplies since y/n was so excited to get them. She first wanted to get her wand
willow, dragon heartstring, 11 3/4 inches.
A/N
the parents are in Slytherin also and very close to the Malfoys but they arent death eaters obviously since they took in y/n.
