I awake to the sounds of birds twittering. A sound that always consoles me when I wake up. "I bet birds don't ever feel alone" I open the curtain and the light streams in. I shield my eyes like a vampire. I live in an average suburban neighbor hood almost bordering onto country. Children play outside, dogs are barking, people are mowing the lawn. Cars drive by kicking up the dust along the sides of the road. The house are quaint almost ranch like and all look pretty much the same, even ours. The difference is inside ours it's a mess. Just like our lives.

It all started about five years back. My dad, Reece, just left me and my mom, Dawn. It was so sudden. One night we were all eating dinner together, next thing I knew he packed all his bags and left for California with a girl that only looked a few years older than me. After that things started falling apart quickly. My mom started drinking a lot. Then she got fired from her job and started working at a Macy's. She got fired from that job too and became unemployed. She kept on drinking. Certain nights it would be so bad that I was on my own for dinner. Soon I was making dinner for myself every night. I barely ever saw her and it was like a didn't even exist to her anymore. I had nobody.
