Aaliyah sat at her usual spot in the campus cafe, sipping on her iced latte and scrolling through her phone. She had a large following on social media, thanks to her charismatic personality and infectious sense of humor. Her feed was filled with pictures of her and her friends, most of whom were members of the college's LGBTQ+ community. Aaliyah was openly gay, and she was proud of it. She had never been one to hide who she was, even in the face of discrimination or prejudice.
As she looked up from her phone, she noticed a girl she had never seen before. She was sitting alone at a table in the corner, staring down at her phone with a look of intense concentration. Aaliyah was intrigued by her, and she couldn't help but wonder what her story was.
The girl looked up and caught Aaliyah's gaze, and Aaliyah smiled at her. The girl looked away quickly, but Aaliyah could see a hint of a smile on her face before she did.
Over the next few days, Aaliyah saw the girl around campus more and more frequently. She was always alone."She seemed to have no friends, at least from what Aaliyah could see. She always ate alone. Aaliyah began to see her more and more often, was it because she had just noticed her or was it pure coincidence?
After several weeks of exchanging glances, the holidays finally came. As if Aaliyah could really consider it a vacation. Being a senior, she had a lot of homework to do and, in addition, she did not like being dependent on her parents at her age, so she had a job alongside her studies.
One morning, Aaliyah put on her waitress uniform and started working. Towards the beginning of the afternoon, the door opened and the young woman from the campus could be seen. Aaliyah once again lost herself in her eyes but quickly returned to reality when she had the chance to hear the voice of this young woman, "Hello, could I have a simple black tea with some cookies?" Aaliyah thought she heard an angel speaking, the stranger had a voice as soft as silk. The only thing that bothered Aaliyah was not knowing her name. So she lied and explained that her name would be necessary for the order. "Jiyoo." That was the answer she received. She was already charmed by this Jiyoo.
As for the young woman, she went to sit at a table near the window overlooking the path that leads to the sea. What Aaliyah could not know was that this little interaction had caused a small crisis in Jiyoo's body. The girl had trouble breathing so much that her body was pounding. Her trembling hands tried as best they could to take out her laptop. During her "crisis," Aaliyah came to deliver her order to her table and, as there were not many people in the restaurant, she asked to sit with her. Aaliyah asked her if she went to the same campus as her, explaining that her face was very familiar to her even though she had never seen her all year. Jiyoo explained that she was a new junior on campus, she had just moved from another city.
The two young women talked for a long time, Jiyoo even waited for Aaliyah until the end of her shift to walk together. Aaliyah explained that she could contact her when she needed help with homework. So, they exchanged numbers while they were at it. Clever, isn't it?
Returning home, both hurried to do their chores so that they could talk until late at night."
