"If passion it can properly be called, was of the most thoroughly romantic, shadowy, and imaginative character"
- Edgar Allan Poe"Welcome home, querida," Gomez said to his wife, offering her his hand. He helped her out of the car and guided her through the front door. They were back from a nighttime picnic in the swamp. Gomez admired his wife's pale skin, glowing under the moonlight.
They stepped through the door and looked into one another's eyes. Just then, they heard a peal of thunder in the distance and it started to rain. Morticia shivered. Gomez took her hand and began to kiss it gently. His lips moved further up her arm and to her neck. He placed his hands around her waist and pulled her to him. She wrapped her arms around his neck as he kissed her even more passionately. Gently, she cupped his cheek and pulled his face up to meet hers. Then, she kissed him. He kissed her back, and suddenly they were devouring one another with their lips.
"Gomez, darling," Morticia pulled away to look at him. "Why don't we take this upstairs?"
"Capital suggestion!" he agreed eagerly. He released her and pulled her left hand up to his mouth. He kissed her delicate fingers, and started to lead her upstairs.
Up until this point, Morticia had soaked up every bit of affection that Gomez had to offer. However, when he kissed her hand, something felt wrong. She looked down and realized that her wedding ring was missing. The large black stone was so rarely removed from her finger that she felt naked without it.
"Gomez! My ring! It's gone!" she exclaimed, starting to panic. "Oh! I must have left it in the car by mistake. I slipped it off for a moment during the drive home."
He looked down at her hand and saw that she was right. The lovely ring that her gave to her all those years ago was always right in its place. However, tonight, her hand was uncharacteristically unadorned. She turned toward the door, worry clearly shown on her face, but Gomez pulled her back.
"You stay right here, Tish. I'll get it for you." His face was so kind and comforting, as though he knew exactly why she was upset, and he intended to do everything that he could to make things right again. He kissed her forehead tenderly. Then, he squeezed her hand, and walked out the door.
"Don't be long, darling!" She called out.
"Don't worry, querida," he assured her. "I'll be back in just a moment, and then, we'll go up to our room," he said, with a seductive look in his eye.
She shivered and batted her long eyelashes. He stared at her for just one second, taking in her beauty. Then, he shook his head and walked out the door.
