Jungkook walked down the busy sidewalk, a black mask concealing his face, and long clothes of the same colour. He sped up as a crowd neared him, all of which had exited a bus. They began to push past him, it was like water hitting a rock. Jungkook held his hand to his mask in an effort to keep his face hidden in the mess that was the crowd. He spotted a familiar sign and ducked away from the sea of people, its pale mint letters grabbing his attention and pulling him in.
Katherine.
He hadn't seen her in three weeks. Not that he was counting. They talked over text occasionally. Yet he missed her little shop, he tried to go there whenever he could, but that was time unavailable to him. Last time he saw the owner she had a huge gash on her forehead. She claimed she hit it on a cupboard, but according to her workmates that wasn't the first time something like that happened. Apparently a week before that it was a black eye, and the week before that it was a busted shoulder. Jungkook would be lying if he said he wasn't suspicious.
But is is jealousy?
He brought out a gloved had to push open the door underneath the green sign. A bell sounded his arrival, several judgmental heads turned. Jungkook didn't blame them. He thought he looked quite like a hitman. So did Taehyung.
"C-can I help you sir?" A voice stuttered next to him.
He turned to face them.
"Oh yes, table for one please." He replied politely. "Hyung."
The employee blushed and gestured for him to sit at the table near the window before scurrying off to the back of the shop. Jungkook smiled inside of his mask and took a seat. This was his usual spot, the one seated near the window. He felt so shielded from the business outside, yet so part of it at the same time. Internally, he rolled his eyes. He found himself thinking about those types of things lately, a few years ago, he would've laughed at himself and said he was "acting like Namjoon hyung".
"Jungkook!" A cheerful voice snapped him out of his thoughts.
"Kat." He rose and hugged his friend, who froze suddenly at his touch. He immediately retreated.
"Sorry..."
She smiled weakly and grimaced as another figure joined the pair, lacing a tight grip on Katherine's sweater clad arm. He was tall, taller than Jungkook, and had curly dark brown hair parted at the middle.
"Who's this?" He sneered, inspecting Jungkook up and down, venom dripping off his voice.
"This is Jungkook, my an old friend. Jungkook, this is Seo-Joon. My fiancé." Katherine replied shakily, forcing a smile onto her face.
"Jungkook? From BTS?" He scoffed.
"Yes... that's me." Jungkook said, holding out his hand for the older to shake, pulling his mask down at the same time.
"I see." He stated, ignoring Jungkook's outstretched hand. "Why don't you get him something to drink?"
"Yes, please." Jungkook said, his concerned gaze on Katherine. "An Cappuccino and hot coco. Please."
Katherine nodded and pried Seo-Joon's hand off her arm, scurrying off to the back of the store. He looked on at her, then turning to face Jungkook.
"So you were the one she snuck off with that one night." He laughed, stepping closer to Jungkook, a smirk plastered on his smug face.
"Snuck off with?" Jungkook snapped. "I'm sorry but I'm sure she doesn't need your permission to see a friend, and don't worry your poor ego, Katherine is nothing more than a friend to me." He stepped closer to him.
"Also, you have no idea how lucky you are to have her, so I suggest you don't treat her like shit."
Seo-Joon scoffed and turned to leave. He threw the door open loudly and stomped down the sidewalk. Katherine stood with two drinks in shock.
"What...?"
"Come, sit." Jungkook sighed, his eyes softer now he'd calmed down.
She placed the drinks on Jungkooks corner table and took a seat, followed by him.
"Here drink the coco."
"No... I don't want to take your-"
"I bought it for you, please drink it."
Katherine's eyes widened, she took the drink and had a sip.
"I'm sorry you had to meet him like this. He's not normally like that."
"Are you sure?"
"What are you implying Jungkook?"
"I'm implying I care, Katherine. I want to know if you're okay, if you're happy, because..." He ducked his head down, his eyes on his lap. He edged closer to her.
"Because..."
"Because what?" Katherine asked, her voice a whisper.
Jungkook's eyes met her glossy ones, falling down to her parted lips, their faces inches away from each other.
"You're my friend."
