When Y/n got home that day, she was in fact going to call Alex. Until, she found out her father was deathly sick. She spent the rest of the day crying in her room. Y/n didn't want to lose her father like she lost her mother.
Brandt came into her room at 9:28 pm with snacks. This was the only time the two got along.
"If you're here to make fun of me and annoy me, get out." She stated.
"Nope, I just wanted to see if you wanted to watch a movie." He smiled. Anyone could tell he was in pain from the news.
"Oh,"
"So?" He questioned, leaning on the door frame.
"Sure, come on." Y/n sniffled, making room on her bed for her half-brother.
Brandt smiled a little and climbed into her bed with chips and candy bars.
They put on 'Girl Interrupted' and ate the snacks.

Both ended up falling asleep at midnight. Considering, they were up eating candy and making prank calls.
Mary heard the two children laughing upstairs, she was proud of them.
No one knows that Alex was waiting for a call the whole night.

Brandt accused Y/n of taking his last drink. It was a stupid argument, it had almost seemed like the two weren't joking around and getting along the night before.
