Chapter 1
Rai“Okay everyone, listen up!!” I screamed as loud as physically possible. No one here likes to listen unless it affects them directly. I watched as some people's heads turned in my direction. “I need volunteers to come with me to get supplies! Who’s gonna come?!” I waited for at least one hand to shoot up. None did. “Wow! Thank you Rava, Luca, and Fawn for volunteering!” I put on a sarcastic smile. I started to walk away with the three others following close behind. When all four of us got to the other room they all started to whine and complain. All I could hear was a mixture of
“But what about Nevza? I can’t leave them behind!”,
“Why do I have to go? I’m normally just a distraction anyway.”, and
“Ughhhhhhhhh.” I can’t blame them, it isn't the most fun thing in the world. I could name hundreds of other things I’d rather do, but we need supplies to keep everyone at the base alive.
“Suit up and let's go. We don’t have time for you guys to complain.” I was starting to get annoyed and obviously, it was visible ‘cause they all just nodded and went to their rooms to get their things. I headed to my room to change into less noticeable clothes. I put on black jeans, a black tank top, and a dark brown cloak to cover my stupid red hair. I love my hair, but it makes missions like this ten times harder. I walked to the entrance of the base to wait for the other three. I hate having to do this. It isn’t like we want to be descended from the Gods. It isn’t our fault, so why do they hate us so much? History says King Feuer the third decided to find a way to kill the Gods. He found a temporary solution. “Put the Gods to sleep for a few centuries then they can’t bother us.” Though that didn’t work. They passed on their powers to their descendents. Of course the Royals and nobles were not happy. They hunted us down like animals. K!lling us on sight. So we went into hiding, and that’s how we became the Cassiopians. When they finally arrived it was 3:30 pm. I snapped out of the trance I was in and spoke “Since you guys decided to take forever,” I sighed, “we have to hurry to make sure we don’t miss the weekly imports. Let’s go.” Everyone silently followed as I checked every twist and turn on the path. When we got there it was almost dark. “Fawn. Rava. You know what to do.” Rava smiled from ear to ear while Fawn just rolled her eyes. Rava’s wings extended to full length before they bolted into the air, while Fawn just grabbed out a flute. Luca and I put in earplugs when Fawn started to play. All the guards and anyone around to help with the shipment looked over at Fawn before slowly dozing off. “That’ll keep them out for about 15-20 minutes.” We stuffed our bags with clothes, food, weapons, and blankets. “I’ll go get Rava. You two head back to base.” I know Luca doesn’t like me going on missions, especially without him, but he also knows better than to disagree with me on a mission. So he walks away with Fawn. I run to the security post where I see Rava sitting on a chair and a knocked-out security guard on the ground. “Come on Rava. You just sitting there ain’t gonna get us out of here any faster." They immediately stood up and we just walked out as if nothing happened. When we made it to the trail back to the base it was already dark out. Rava hates the dark, and I knew this so I don’t know why they decided to still walk with me. “This is why you should’ve kept the light in your bag. We gave you the flashlight for missions, not for late-night puppet shows.” I couldn’t help but scold them. He’s 20 for the God's sake. They’re older than me and yet I still have to treat them like a child. We kept walking the trail with very little talking. We are safe and that’s what matters. Or at least that’s what I thought.Chapter 2
RavaI hate the dark, why me? Rai and I kept walking down the trail to the base with Rai scolding me. Until I heard a crack. I immediately put my arm in front of Rai to stop them. “Did you hear that?” Though, of course, I got the response of no. I extended my wings and wrapped one around Rai. I don’t know if it was ‘cause I was scared for Rai or myself. Then I heard it again. The crack. Out of the corner of my eye, I see someone holding up a gun at us. I immediately tackle Rai to the ground when I feel my arm stinging. I look down and see that the bullet grazed it.
“Oh my god! Rava are you okay?!”
“I’m fine! Worry about that guy!” I responded while pointing at whoever had the gun. Rai stood up and water from the air started to collect. Then all of a sudden they threw this ball of water at the mystery person. They fell to the ground, and before they could even think about getting up, I grabbed Rai and bolted upward into the sky. “Are you sure you’re okay?” Rai asked, “You should probably land so I can check out the wound.” I rolled my eyes in response,
“I’m fine, it can wait until we get back to base, we have more medical supplies there than here.”
