"ADSILA!"
"DAKOTA!"
"CAIT!"
The Sun beat down on Amitola as she set up for the feast. Straw mats in tow, she proceeded to spread them out gently on the smooth dirt beneath her feet. Small puffs of it lifted off of the ground and rose way up high to the Sun. Oh, how they wished to rise up with them. To escape into the Sun and its forever warm arms. In the distance, she could see dirt tornados forming behind the three girls as they scampered up the dirt path from the fields. They were endlessly at play. They raced to the set of the feast as one raging storm , almost knocking Amitola over.
Adsila smiled brightly in her face, each and every one of her teeth glistening just as bright as the Sun. She was dirty and sweaty from running around through the crops and dirt. Even with it smudged on her cheeks and limbs, she was still gorgeous. Her platinum blonde hair looked sunkissed as each strand shimmered. Her skin was as impeccable as a porcleain China doll, without a crack, smudge, or scrape. Her tiny lips were like a bubblegum pink candy heart, and she was the tiniest little thing. She was the exact epitomy of a Sun Child. Even though Dakota and Cait were her older sisters, they looked nothing like her. Cait's hair was a firey reddish orange, and resembled more of the Sun's core. She had lively green eyes and a deep tan from being baked while playing in the natural crop mazes. Dakota's locks were dirty blonde, but they hid golden strands just like the ones Adsila had. Her eyes were a deeper blue than hers, though, and she had a forest of dark freckles.
"Is it time for the great feast, as you said!?!!?" Adsila wondered aloud.
"Yes, fellow Child. The Sun has been preparing for us as we have for it." Amitola assured. Her eyes sparkled brightly like the stars, the tiny night lights that they hoped to never again see. When she was first born, the Beam Elders wanted to shun her. Surely, she was burden of evil, sent down from the Moon! It was like her soul embodied evil, since they were the key to the soul and there were stars within hers. They advised her to laugh with her eyes shut to hide this curse of hers, for she would surely be burned with her dust scattered to the chilling winter wind. But, her execution would be nothing like the SunRise.
Within a matter of seconds, the others began to make their way to the feast. Dakota and Adsila scampered to their places at the feasting site, but Anna smacked their behinds with her cane. Adam had secretly been praying for the night, and that's what came that terrible day. The thing that reaked havoc all around the Sun Children. It had been his fault. As he stood on the tiny specks of flame that began to multiply beneath his feet, Anna had jumped in to save him. By the time she had him halfway untied, the flames were higher than the both of them. She herself barely beat death with one of her legs completely charred to a crisp and the other badly damaged. Anna was happy that Adam didn't witness that, but she also wished that he could have see how strong she was. Amitola and Anna were both to marry him, and there would be 3 children between the two of them, creating the perfect Sun family, each member making up one of the Sun's six layers. The father symbolized the Core of course, while the first and second wives were the Photosphere and Convection Zone, and this of course depended on who was prettiest. The three children would represent the remaining layers: Corona, Chromosphere, and Radiation Zone. She had never told a soul, but Amitola would secretly steal the cane in the night whenever she thought of Adam, just to caress it. Run her calloused and blistery fingers over the grooves, carvings, and burnt areas. Anna had secretly constructed it out of whatever pieces of wood she could salvage from the pile that Adam had been burnt on. It was said to bring bad luck, but Amitola didn't care. At least this way, she could get the chance to sleep with him, and Amitola wouldn't be able to steal him. All three of them knew that Anna was surely the prettiest with her naturally curly ribbon of hair while Amitola's was frizzy and seemed unkempt. Even her name seemed much more attractive.
Before long, it was time for all of them to take their places on their straw mats. So they did. The youngest Children sat in a circle towards the middle, while the elder surrounded, trying to protect them and keep them filled while they themselves only absorbed the stray rays.
"Oh Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun-" Adsila sang quietly.
Soon, they all joined in with her.
"PLEASE SHINE DOWN ON ME! OH MR. SUN, SUN, MR. GOLDEN SUN-"
"Please shine down on me_____" whistled.
Suddenly, the glare of the Sun shone brightly in their eyes. It blinded them, but that effect was bittersweet. For surely, everything of the Sun was honest and pure and good and fulfilling, a nessecity. And everything in and of the Moon was evil and bad and deceitful, scary, dark and mean. The land seemed to be engulfed by the Sun, almost as if they were entering into its presence. It was truly a spiritual experience. It burned through their souls and fed them until they could hold no more. There was nothing without The Sun. That's what they believed. It's warmth was overwhelming, and it was better than anything you could ever experience. It was almost like enlightenment, or perhaps a sneak peek at heaven, a Ding-Dong-Ditch past the pearly gates. There was simply nothing like it.
"ELEOS!" they all cried in unsion. The feast had commenced, and now it was over. Anna quickly arose from her straw mat. It was her turn to also clean up after everyone had feasted. The elders were in her presence. It was not the day to screw up now.
From the corner of her eye, she could spot Anna hobbling over to the Belders. Small smiles crept over their lips as she approcached. Why her and not Amitola? Why was she always supreme?Superior?
"Greetings, fellow Child," they greeted in unison.
"And the same to you, eldest Children." she replied quietly.
"Now, about Adam....." the first Belder began.
"WHAT ABOUT HIM? IS HE OKAY!!?!??!" Anna exclaimed.
"Now, now. Not so loud, Child. This is only for your sunburned ears." the second of the elders scolded. They flashed a dirty look in Anna's direction.
Still hunched over with numerous feast mats bunched up in her arms, she tried to turn away quickly. The least she wanted to do was upset them. Why, she lived for them. But, what was this talk about Adam? He had long since passed. How was she to turn the other cheek on the true love of her life? Could he really be alive?
".....wait, Child....simply wait. There is not much else to tell you." the third advised.
Amitola peeked as Anna nodded and hobbled off down the dirt path towards her home. Thinking she was now safe, Amitola straightened up and looked over at the Belders. They all stared her down, and then slowly, but fiercely, lowered their chins- the symbol of warning. Amitola shrieked, gripped the mats tightly, and sprinted all the way home. She had escaped death.
