Kaven and Harold had been best friends since they were kids. They did everything together, from playing video games to going on hikes. Kaven had always harbored a secret crush on Harold, but he never had the courage to tell him.
One day, Harold came to Kaven with exciting news. He had met a girl named Sarah and was head over heels for her. Kaven tried his best to be happy for Harold, but inside he was heartbroken.
Over the next few weeks, Kaven watched from the sidelines as Harold and Sarah's relationship grew stronger. They would go on romantic dates and post cute pictures together on social media. Kaven couldn't help but feel jealous, but he knew he had no right to be.
One day, Kaven and Harold were hanging out at their favorite spot in the park. They were sitting on a bench, enjoying the warm summer breeze, when Harold turned to Kaven with a serious expression.
"Kaven, I need to tell you something," Harold said. "Sarah and I are getting really serious, and I think I'm going to ask her to be my girlfriend."
Kaven's heart sank. He felt like he had been punched in the gut.
"I'm happy for you, man," Kaven said, trying to sound sincere.
Harold looked at Kaven with concern. "Is everything okay? You seem upset."
Kaven took a deep breath. He knew he couldn't keep his feelings bottled up any longer.
"Harold, I need to tell you something," Kaven said, his voice trembling. "I've had feelings for you for a long time. I know it's not fair to you, and I don't expect you to feel the same way, but I just had to tell you."
Harold's eyes widened in surprise. He didn't say anything for a few moments, just stared at Kaven with a mixture of shock and confusion.
"I had no idea," Harold finally said. "I'm sorry, Kaven, but I don't feel the same way. I love you as a brother, but that's all it is for me."
Kaven felt like he had been kicked in the stomach. He knew it was a long shot, but he had hoped that maybe, just maybe, Harold felt the same way.
"I understand," Kaven said, trying to keep his voice steady. "I just needed to get it off my chest."
Harold put his arm around Kaven's shoulders. "You're my best friend, Kaven. I'll always be here for you, no matter what."
Kaven tried to smile, but it felt forced. He knew he had to come to terms with the fact that Harold would never feel the same way about him. It was going to be a long, hard road, but at least he had his best friend by his side.
Harold could see the pain and sadness in Kaven's eyes, and he wished he could make it go away. He had always valued their friendship, and he didn't want Kaven to feel like he was losing him.
"Kaven, I hope this won't change our friendship," Harold said. "I care about you deeply, and I want you to be happy."
Kaven nodded, trying to hold back tears. "I know, Harold. I'll always be here for you, too."
They sat in silence for a few minutes, both lost in their thoughts. Kaven was trying to come to terms with his unrequited love, while Harold was trying to figure out how to support his best friend.
"Hey, let's go grab some ice cream," Harold said, trying to lighten the mood.
Kaven smiled weakly. "Sure, that sounds good."
As they walked to the ice cream parlor, Harold could see the pain in Kaven's eyes, and he wished he could take it away. He knew that he couldn't change how Kaven felt, but he was determined to be there for him, no matter what.
