Eyes stared into my own, ones that I've looked into many times before, so why does it feel so different...?

the atmosphere was tense, and with narrow eyes, he responded with "Yes"

rasa glared at his son, unhappy with gaara's tone of voice "I've sent a recommendation letter to Yuuei, the exams will be held in the next few days, so you must be prepared"

gaara stayed quiet, a dark look in his eyes as he listened to his father "Don't disappoint me, you'll be head of the village when the time comes"

Rasa leaned forward in his chair as he flipped through some papers on his desk, settling on the paper with documentation of his instructions after his passing

Despite the councils' protest of gaara taking his position of kazekage, his decision was made and nothing would change his mind

Gaara watched Rasa lean back in his chair, a sigh escaping his mouth before he looked back at gaara, signalling him to leave with a wave of his hand

The red-haired male turned around and walked out the office door, looking ahead of him with malice.

as days passed, the day of the entrance exam arrived and gaara was dropped off at the gates of U.A

as gaara walked, he spotted a boy with red and white hair, along with a guy with a buzz cut, he paid them no mind as he kept on walking, but overheard some of their conversation

"Hello!" the boy with the buzz cut said with enthusiasm, the energy that made gaara irritated the boy with duel-coloured hair stopped in his tracks, not bothering to look back at the guy

"You're in my way" he spoke harshly, gaara was uninterested in their interaction and kept on walking

Once the written exams were over, present mic announced "Rock on! The written part of the recommendation test is over!" leaning forward with his finger pointing at them

"The practical's next. and then, finally, the interview" They lined up in a group of six

"You'll go six at a time for the practical. get steppin' when your numbers are called" gaara was annoyed by the man's loud nature

gaara stood next to the buzz-cut guy that he saw at the entrance, he now had a big smile on his face

"The exam will be a three-kilometre race, but it's an obstacle course so you can't run straight through it! use your quirks to reach the finish!" he finished, pointing his arm up in the air with a large smile

the buzzer blared and gaara started off running, but as todoroki and Inasa used their quirk to get ahead, gaara jumped into the air, sand like waves carried him with ease

he had caught up to the two in no time, passing inasa and coming head-to-head with todoroki

When all three reached the end, gaara disintegrated into sand, appearing across the finish line as his body reformed

"Wowzah! Number 18 finishes by a landslide!" not so long after, the other two finished as well, inasa finished second and todoroki third

"Alright, I won! Maybe second but still great!" he cheered, the last few grains of sand attached themselves to gaara's face, and soon blending in with the rest of his skin

Gaara ignored them as he started to walk to the next place they had to be, "who knows what'll happen next time. you were amazing" inasa said

turning to todoroki "I'm guessing you must be endeavours kid, am I right? That's so awesome!" "shut up." inasa put his arms down, his smile falling as well

"I just came here to pass a stupid test, that's all. I don't care if I beat you and that sand guy or not, so give it a rest" todoroki walked away and past gaara in the process

inasa watched as todoroki walked away "You're in my way" todoroki glared ahead with malice

gaara ignored their dispute, but it seems inasa had moved on from todoroki's harsh behaviour and words rather quickly as he turned his attention to gaara

"You did great as well! you don't see sand quirks very much, and the way you used it was like you were surfing on water!" he said, gaara turned his head to look at inasa who caught up to him

However, gaara said nothing in return "You're pro hero Rasa's son right? His sand is gold yet yours seems to be normal sand" inasa continued

once again, gaara stayed silent but it didn't throw off inasa in the slightest it seemed

"not the most talkative eh? that's fine you seem nice despite that hahaha!" the red-haired male looked at him with an unimpressed gaze

Inasa continued to follow him as he walked next to gaara "Say what's your name? Mine is inasa yoarashi" He gave a smile to the shorter male

"Kazekage gaara." he spoke shortly, his voice rough around the edges yet sounded calm and composed, inasa smiled "So what makes you want to enter yuuei?"

"Yuuei is one of the best schools there is" inasa looked down at gaara with a large smile "Yeah! I admire yuuei and the students truly"

Gaara had gotten sick of Inasa's chatter, but they were back inside yuuei for the interview and so gaara walked forward, leaving inasa behind

Inasa waved enthusiastically at gaara "Hope to see you once school starts kazekage" gaara kept on forward "Not interested." However, the energetic male didn't hear him

When gaara returned, he was told to go straight to the kazekage's office as his father was awaiting his return

Two guards that stood outside the office, quickly and shakily opened the doors to the office for him, and when gaara walked in, rasa sat behind his desk, looking at him expectantly

Gaara stared back at his father "...well?" rasa said, leaning back and crossing his arms "First place in practical exams"

Rasa nodded "The other tests results should be known once the letter comes in, now we wait" A smirk crept up on his face

The man turned his attention back to his heir "I expect endeavour's son will be attending yuuei as well" gaara thought back to the boy with duel-coloured hair from the exams

"Was he at the exams as well?" rasa asked, placing his hand on his chin "He was" gaara said shortly

His father hummed with thought before speaking up once more "Apparently endeavour has three kids, and a daughter as well"

Gaara knew what his father was getting at, but said nothing, it was a known fact to continue the line of the kazekage, you needed to get married and have kids

However, rasa seemed to be thinking of setting up a marriage for gaara, his heir already despite his age

but before they can continue with this topic, one of the guards bursts into the room, his expression is panicked and he opens his mouth to speak, but hesitates when he sees gaara, but quickly averted his attention back to Rasa

"Sir! Your presence is requested at Kamino ward!" rasa stood up "We'll continue this conversation another time" He walked past Gaara and out the door

Gaara stood there for a moment, thinking of an arranged marriage made him boil with anger, yet indifference as well

Having his father decide and make him do something with no thought of gaara and only for himself and his own benefit, made him scowl with distaste, never caring to be a hero, but taking the entrance exam with a guaranteed acceptance

However, being married would not make a difference to him, she would just be another nuisance

With a scowl, gaara left the office and past the guards who shot a look at each other in awkwardness and fear

Back once again, but to make it clear, I am not shipping gaara and fuyumi but rather to show that arranged marriages are still a thing, but for a slightly different from enji's reasons
