Arc 1: The Long Winter
Ch7: Lily Roverpy
Ashray brought the mayor of Ledusberg town to the living room after answering the door and greeting the visitor.
The town chief was not as ancient as Andersen had assumed. It wasn't a man, either, but a young lady in her late teens to early twenties.
The town leader of Ledusberg was taken aback for a minute when she saw Andersen before bowing and greeting him.
"Pleased to meet you, Mr. Mage; my name is Lily Roverpy, and I'm the mayor of Ledusberg."
Andersen nodded and decided to get right to the subject.
"Is it normal for your town to elect their leaders at your age?"
Mr. Andersen's bluntness and harshness irritated and exasperated Ashray after the inquiry, while Lily chuckled, her brown eyes crinkling into crescents. Lily, like Ashray and Katerina, suspected Andersen of being a dwarf after hearing his speech and observing his manner.
"No, it is unusual; our former town mayor died last year, and I was elected to replace him."
Lily sat on one of the sofas, poured herself a cup of hot chocolate, and asked
"Over the years, we've had many well-meaning mages and experts visit our town and try to solve our town's problems, but none of them have been successful in solving our eternal winter problem." Mr. Mage, are you also one of the volunteers who wanted to test their prowess against this eternal winter curse that befell our town? "
Andersen was bound to disappoint Lily with his reaction as she waited for a promising response.
" Solve?.. "
Andersen murmured before bursting out laughing. Lily felt a wave of embarrassment and confusion flood over her. Ashray, on the other hand, was on the verge of putting Mr. Hans in his place so that he would behave.
"Hahahahahaha! What a joke! Clearly you're insane, Ms. Lily, if you think of me that way. I'm not a saint. I'm not a good samaritan. Whatever makes you think I've come here to help you address your town's problems?"
Despite being a heroic servant, he had nothing heroic about him, and most of the other servants on his world, despite being labeled "heroic servants," had nothing heroic about them either. What an irony that some of them were terrible persons, villains, etc. while living and then transformed into heroic servants when their human lifespan ended.
Lily takes a deep breath and refuses to let Andersen get to her. Ashray and Katerina have informed her that the guest at their home has a very poisonous mouth and an irritating disposition.
The two kids have been putting up with the mage's attitude for one week. Lily was astounded and impressed by their patience and ability to keep up with their guests.
"If you're not here to help our town, mister, why did you come here?"
Lily was intrigued. According to Ashray, she also knows that Katerina discovered the mage laying in the snow and assisted him.
Andersen answered, looking at the young town head of Ledusberg and flicking the book he was holding to the next page.
"I end up on the outskirts of Ledusberg after being involved in an accident."
Ashray grimaced as he observed Andersen and Lily's chat. Mr. Hans sleeping on the ground would cause what kind of accident?
"Accident?"
Lily inquired, her interest building. Andersen reasoned that because this universe appeared to be open to magic, he would provide a plausible and logically close to the truth answer.
"One of my coworkers accidentally fired his arrow on a magical artifact, causing it to have an interesting reaction; I happened to be nearby, and I would never expect it to transport me here in the town of Ledusberg... "
" I see.. "
Teleportation? The artifact about whom the mage was speaking is obviously a significant and powerful artifact. While Lily was thinking and contemplating the facts given by the mage, the mage added
"Esteemed town leader, I would fancy and take pride in my profession as an author more than a mage, so if you wouldn't call me by my name, I prefer to be addressed as an author."
Lily flushed when she heard the mage and realized she was being impolite by not addressing him by name.
'but he didn't even introduce himself!'
The pair of blue eyes were staring at him with disinterest, as if reading her mind's current thoughts.
"You already know my name from the youngsters, so I won't bother introducing myself."
Lily sighed, her tolerance being put to the strain by her encounter with the author, Mr. Hans.
Lily reminded Mr. Hans that he may leave Ledusberg at any time after she introduced herself to him and decided she'd had enough. It wasn't like they were locking him or he was staying here forever. He was free to leave the own and Lily would prefer it to be sooner than later. Ashray was also allowed to dismiss their nasty visitor anytime if they decided that they have enough of his rudeness.
But before she could depart, Mr. Hans interrupted her:
"Katerina has told me stories about how those mages tried to solve your winter problem but ended up with nothing or failed over time; those mages are foolish and idiotic for attempting to solve the effects of this curse but not the source."
Lily, who was about to open the door, came to a halt. Looking back at Mr. Hans with a blazing and intense gaze in her brown eyes, she demanded, her tone doubtful.
"So, after all, this year's... this curse that happened to us wasn't natural at all, but was instead cast by someone?"
Lily was unsure whether she should put her trust in Mr. Hans, whom she had only recently met.
"The Caster of this curse is powerful enough to allow this eternal winter to wreak havoc on your town for years."
But Lily believes there must be a chance. After all, magic exists, and various high-level curses have been told throughout Twisted Wonderland's history.
But the thought of someone existing and causing this curse made Lily angry and afraid.
Angry because someone so wicked has been causing the people of Ledusberg to suffer for the past few years, and afraid because the caster of the curse is someone so powerful that they has even allowed the curse to fester for years in their townWho could it possibly be?
