I shrugged my shoulders.
"There was nothing out of the ordinary that day. My mother screamed at me to go get her some alcohol, she hit me a few times, so I ran away and shut myself in the bathroom."
"What was your father doing?"
He dropped her off the stairs. He told me to stay calm and to pretend that mess of a woman had had too much to drink that night. Too much that she couldn't stand anymore.
"At first, he tried to calm her down, he eventually gave up and went to sleep." I spoke as I took a sip from the nearby glass of cold water.
Lies.
"You said you were the first person to find your mother. Did you notice something strange in your surroundings? Did you see anyone?"
My dad stood next to me as we both glanced in horror at the corpse. He told me he would have found someone better to take care of me. Someone rich enough to provide for me.
"No, I didn't see anyone else. There was just my mom lying there all by herself. Excuse me officer, but I'm having a really hard time talking about this, could we stop the interview?"
"I'm really sorry Althea, there's no problem with that. We will take you home."
Lies.
That is not my home.

"I apologize for barging in this late at night, remember when you told me you owe me? I know how you can make it up for me. I need a favor, take my little girl and let her be your son's spouse when they're old enough. I need to leave for her own sake."
"I understand, but do you really believe that won't have a bad impact on your daughter?"
"I have no other alternatives, you're the only one who can help her. Can you do that for me, Abraham?"
"Of course. I'm sure my son will understand."
There's no home for a little girl whose faith was already told.
