It is currently 1920. My name is Ivan Spatisel. I live in Kharkiv, Russia. A civil war is raging on nearby. The Disgusting and Vile Red Army is just north of here. President Pyotr Derber controls the entirety of the government and the army, and does so to protect our democracy. I do question this, however, as we have not had an election in years. He claims that the Red Army wants to establish a totalitarian dystopia, however I do not see how theirs would be any different from our own. My friend Vladimir is part of a group trying to rebel against the Russian Republic, and he tells me that the Reds work for the people, and that they want to establish a system in which all men are truly created equal. I am skeptical of this, however, as I have heard from refugees from Moscow that the Reds have murdered noble families without clear reason. Oh, it appears that someone has come knocking on my door. it appears to be a government official. "Привет." he says. "Hello. what do you need from me?" "The Government has called that you be evicted from your current place of residence and that it be turned into a barracks for a large army that is coming here to defeat the Red Army just north of here, who are planning to attack the city." "But, where will I live?", I say. "Sometimes we must sacrifice our personal liberties for the good of the nation.", he replies. I quickly shut and lock the door, and I rush to my basement to grab my illegal rifle in case he comes to find me. the government has outlawed personal firearms since 1917, but Vladimir has managed to smuggle one in from Ukraine, and he gave it to me just in case. "Open the door!" I hear the government official's voice call from the door. I do not respond. "Open the door immediately! I have brought the Cheka here to arrest you!". Shit. I know what happens when you are arrested by the Cheka. You are locked in a prison in Siberia until you die. I quickly remember the secret tunnel Vladimir has dug from my basement to his rebel force's base of operations. I grab my rifle and rush through the tunnel as I hear a loud gunshot shooting through the door. I quickly rush through the tunnel, and I make sure to cover the ends in dirt to make sure the Cheka cannot find me.
