18) THE HEADQUARTERS OF EYE OF EARTH

~ HEADQUARTERS OF EYE OF EARTH ~

Our story took us to a part of the town of Povegliano Veronese where greed and corruption took hold because of material good, namely the headquarters of Eye Of Earth.

The headquarters of the corrupt heroes, from the outside, was chock full of white lights as helicopters returned to base and others departed on missions while the colossal airship floated ominously in the sky.

Stepping inside, the Eye Of Earth headquarters was mostly composed of a giant atrium where a huge globe made entirely of gold hung from the ceiling with a depiction of an eye wrapped in a geographic grid.

The floor was made of reinforced concrete but covered with brick red rubberized carpets, the walls of the rooms were entirely white except for the atrium where each wall of the structure, that is four, were divided into four colors: one orange, one red, one blue and one green.

The rumbling atrium was divided into three floors, and corridors walled with Plexiglas surrounded the entire perimeter, where anyone could both look at the other floors and corridors and at the atrium and the globe attached to the ceiling.

At the corners of the structure were staircases leading to the upper floors, except for one that led down into a cold and frightening corridor, a kind of short lived underground tunnel that connected a giant building outside, namely the "Heroes Training Hall".

Yes, they had had a gymnasium built, complete with bleachers and locker rooms. Little by little the heroes of Eye Of Earth wandered around the headquarters with certain tasks assigned by leader Ethan Hawkins, who had to handle computers, who had to handle requests for help, who cleaned, ate, slept, etc. etc...

They used the ground floor most, where they immediately had the armory, an interrogation room, and a room where Ethan and other allies were present. They were sitting around a long table talking, along with a projection of the Eye Of Earth League logo via a hologram board behind the leader. The leader had aged a great deal since the last time we saw him; in fact, his hair and beard were white...

But he looked different, more cruel and insane, as if something had changed. Thirteen years ago Ethan Hawkins was turning a good thirty years old, but today the leader looked like he was at least seventy....

Ethan: "In these times, business is not going well at all. All because of those creatures! If we had caught them thirteen years ago, events now would have turned out differently, but what can we do about it? The Immediate Murder Professionals have realized our intentions and tend to hide more, they have trained more. Well done I would say, but I have to propose an idea of my own." he narrated in a deep tone of voice, resting his hands on the table with seriousness.

Ghost: "We are listening to you, sir." he replied nervously as he sat next to Astrid.

Ethan: "But first Ghost, call our men and warn them to come to the base urgently!" he sternly ordered.

Ghost: "Roger!"

Then he picked up a walkie talkie and said:

Ghost: "Spotters, do you read me? This is Ghost! The leader wants you to return to HQ, over!" he ordered but the only thing he heard was static noises and silence.

Ghost: "Did you get the message? Pass!" he said as he began to worry.

Ghost: "Something must have happened."
