I woke up in a dark room. I sit up and look around.
"Where the heck am I?" I say, stand up and reach around for a door knob. When I reach it I open the door and see buildings as tall as the eye can see. I look around and see papers flying across the street. Empty cars, fire hydrant broken water leaking from it, and a store with no customers. I walk down the street a bit hesitant. I look down an alley and see more papers and tons of trash. Blowing around with the wind. I look up and see the sky made of gray clouds no hint of blue. Kept going and made it a mile or two. No souls, no breathing, and no body living. Houses are empty, no kids running through the streets, moms right after them telling them to slow down before they get run over. I turn around and see the tallest building in New York. No one around it like there usually is. I walk downtown and see a body. A moving body. A girl. A crying girl. I walk slowly. She looks up.
"Help me please. Please help me." She whispers barely audible. I sit next to her on the curb.
"What do u need help with?" I ask her. She looked cold and she hadn't eaten for days. She turns her hand around and it has a nasty cut on it. She watches me grab it.
"What the heck happened? looks like you killed someone and they stabbed you." I say with a. Chuckle.
"Something like that" she says lifeless. I nod and take off the sweater I was wearing and ripped a piece off and wrapped her hand.
"How long have you been here?" I ask.
"3 days." She says staring forward. I follow her gaze and start to tear up a kid laying in the road dead with a blanket over the body. What the heck happened to New York?
"What's the story?" I ask her.
"She was only 3. Her name is Jessie Kelly Logan. She loved music and the store across the street. One day the people with black coats starting coming in quickly and she got in their way and they just killed her. And starting taking people." She says starting to tear up.
"How'd you know her?" I ask.
"I didn't. I know her mom very very well" she says. I get up and tell her to follow she stares at Jessie and whispers goodbye. We walk on and I felt weird about this girl next to me. I don't know what it was. But this girl was sick and hurt and I wasn't gonna leave her to watch her best friends daughter die over and over again. I look forward and see a building that wasn't destroyed. Looked brand new actually. On the sign it said
"SURVIVORS"
We look at each other. I don't know what to think. We walk into the building to see a lady who was healthy and living sitting there typing on a computer like a normal office like nothing ever happened. The bell rang with we came in. She looked up.
"Oh my goodness. We've been looking everywhere for survivors." She says hugging the girl I picked up. Then looked at me and shakes my hand. The girl I was with was scared I could tell. She had the look in her eye.
"What happened?" I ask. The lady looks at me.
"Follow me." She says strictly. She turns behind her and pushed a button. The sound of locks turning and something coming lose. The door. She steps in and I go first and make sure Jane doe here make sit in next. When we are walking I see tons of offices but no workers.
"Where is everyone?" I ask her.
"There is no one only me and the boss." She says sternly. I nod and continue walking. We get into an elevator. She presses the 50th floor. We go speeding up. Quickly. I get uneasy but then we stop.
"He will be waiting for you" she says and pushes us out. We walked into a 50 shades of gray office I'm telling you.
"Survivors. I can't believe we managed to miss two highly screw ups." He says. I turn around and see this guy who was well built and chiseled face with a suit on.
"Excuse me?" I ask.
"When did you two wake up?" He asks.
"Umm. Like an hour or a half ago." I say shrugging. He nods and types it into his iPad. He looks at Jane doe.
"You?" He asks.
"I was never asleep." She says.
He looks up quickly.
"You never were put asleep?" He asks. She shakes her head no.
"Wow. I thought we got rid of people like you." He says.
"Well might as well, be the nice guy. I'll give you two your names." He says. Going to grab two files. He grabs them and hands one to each of us on the table.
"Welcome back Karter and Alexis." He says leaving his office. I open the folded and see all my information I guess. Pictures of me. Everything. I see Alexis tearing up a photo while crying. Screaming it's not okay. It's unfair.
"Hey hey. Alexis calm down." I say pulling her away from the table. She falls to the ground as does the photo I reach down to grab it.
"What is this photo anyways?" I turn it over and see the photo and sighed deeply.
