Hello! My name is Professor Larch, the Pokémon professor of the Krother region! My job is to study Pokémon and assign new trainers their first Pokémon. Now which will you have?

...Pardon?

You already have one? How is that possible?

"Happy birthday, son!" My dad shouted as I ate my cake. I grinned ear to ear as my mom took my picture; I was the happiest seven year old on Earth. My parents were amazing! My mom was a cool Pokémon nurse and my dad was one of the Krother region's strongest gym leaders;  also breeding Pokémon in his free time to raise and give to young trainers. "Well, do you want your present?" My dad grinned excitedly while my mom rolled her eyes and prepared her rebuttal. "I told you, Drake, he's not going to be able to use it yet." "Of course, it's not for standard use yet because he's not of age." My dad said in a sarcastic, monotone voice. I was excited. I knew for sure it'd be a Pokémon!

My dad was a strong trainer and gym leader, and his specialty was dragon Pokémon! He'd let me fly on his Dragonite and watch a lot of his battles, and also let me take care of some of the baby Pokémon as soon as they hatched from their eggs. I'd been begging dad for a Pokémon for forever, and he wanted to give me one so badly! My mother, however, was less fond of the idea. "He'll hurt himself!" "He can't handle that level of responsibility!" "He'll not be able to take care of it yet!" Today, however, it seemed that she'd finally given in.

"You've got to promise to take good care of it, son." My dad lectured me. I knew for sure now that it was a Pokémon, now the main surprise was just knowing what it was. "I will dad, I will!" I shouted excitedly. "Well, here you go!" My dad grinned, handing me an egg. I was immediately confused. "Um... What is it?" I asked. "It's a Pokémon egg!" He smiled. "But egg season is over, haven't all of the Pokémon eggs hatched?" I asked, recalling how last month we'd had to clean up egg shells from the field. "Correct, but I set this one aside." My dad began.

"Usually it would have hatched by now, however I knew you wanted this Pokémon. I took the egg and kept it hidden, of course after I made sure that it's parent would let it happen." Dad rubbed the back of his neck. "Anyways, Dragonite here will help you hatch it. It's very good with eggs, and this one's already about to burst." He wasn't lying, I could see the egg wobbling.

"Nite, Drago!" Dragonite greeted us as we walked outside and stomped towards me with it's arms outstretched, seemingly expecting the egg. It smiled and let out a friendly sound as I petted it after giving her the egg. Dragonite proceeded to sit on the egg to heat it up, and the egg started wobbling quicker. Small cracking sounds could be heard. Dragonite stood up and gave me the egg, smiling. "Drago, drag!" She grinned. I held the egg, shaking and cracking. I heard one loud bump and one big crack. A second loud bump, and the crack lengthened. With a loud crack and a final bump, the top barely came off. It was completely detached, yet the top was still on it.

Right as I reached to remove the top, it moved lightly upward. A cute blue head was looking out with the top of the egg on it's head. It looked around confusedly until it's gaze finally rested on me. It smiled, and let out a happy cry. "Tini, tini!" It shouted, jumping out of it's egg's shell and wrapping itself around my shoulders like a neck pillow. It was a beautiful baby Dratini! I squealed. "A DRATINI!? THANK YOU SO MUCH DAD!" I hugged my dad. "I told you he would love it." My dad looked smugly at my mom, who glared at him. "You're welcome son." My dad looked down at me and my new friend. "Remember, you have to take good care of Dratini here. Treat it with respect and kindness and it will be your most loyal and powerful ally. Maybe if you raise it right, it'll grow up to be as strong as Dragonite here; maybe even stronger!" He laughed. I smiled at my new best friend and began to pet her.

I see... That is quite the touching story on how you came to meet your partner! Well, don't let me hold you up any further then.

My mom woke me up as I was late for school. I quickly grabbed my lunch and ran to school. I quickly entered my class and sat down until recess. I walked out to recess with my backpack, holding Dratini. She didn't like her Pokéball, so I didn't make her go in unless I had to. We weren't allowed to have our Pokémon out unless it was recess, so I opened it and let her out. "Tini, dratini!" She said, wrapping herself around my arm and nuzzling me. "Hey look, it's the nerd and his dumb weak worm!" My bully, Luca, pointed at me. "Shut up! We aren't weak." I shouted at him. "Oh?" He smirked. "Surely if that's the case then you won't mind battling me? Or does your Dratini still chicken out of every battle?" He laughed.

He was right. Every time I'd tried to battle with her, Dratini always chickened out to run and hide. She wasn't scared, she just didn't want to hurt anyone. It seemed as though this was to happen again. Dratini wrapped tightly around me and whimpered. "Fine then, since your wimptini won't battle... I guess you'll have to do!" My eyes widened in horror. "Rattata, bite!" His Rattata lunged at me with it's mouth opened looking to bite a chunk out of me. I closed my eyes and braced for the impact. "Eevee, quick attack!"

Huh? The bite never came. I opened my eyes and saw a boy standing in front of me. "Eevee, eevee!" His Pokémon barked. "R-Rattata!" Luca gasped. "What's your problem, freak?" His friend said, pushing the helpful boy. "You think it's okay to attack someone because their Pokémon won't battle because it doesn't want to hurt someone? Well news flash, Eevee and I aren't scared to tear your weak little pests to shreds." He smirked. "Zubat/Caterpie, go!" His two goons shouted in unison, throwing out their two Pokémon. "A two on one? You cowards!" I shouted at them. "Shut up nerd! Wouldn't be a two on one if you didn't have such a lame Pokémon!" One of them mocked me. Dratini wrapped tightly around me, but this time it didn't whimper. It glared at the Pokémon. "Tini, Dratini!" It cried at me. "You want to battle?" She nodded.

"Well, since you thought she was so weak you'll have no issues taking her down. Go, Dratini!" I shouted, spinning around and stopping myself while pointing at them as Dratini jumped off of me to sit beside Eevee. "Appreciate the help." The helpful boy started. "Help? Oh no, we're here to battle for you." I corrected him. By now, most people had gathered around to see the battle. "Dratini, twister!" I commanded. "TINI!" It cried, spinning up a massive twister that attacked both the Caterpie and the Zubat, fainting them instantly. The boy's jaw dropped. "Holy crap! I didn't know your Dratini was so powerful!" He gawked. "You freaking cheater! Your Dratini is supposed to be weak!" One of the boys groaned. "I told you it was scared to battle because it doesn't like hurting other Pokémon, not because it was weak." I smirked.

The boys ran off and I was left with the Eevee and her trainer. "Thank you for your help. Without you and your Eevee's bravery, Dratini would never have had the courage to battle those nobodies." I thanked him. "No, thank you! Eevee loves helping people and she is hungry for battles, so she had fun. Isn't that right, 'Vee?" "Eevee!" It smiled and cried out. "The name's Aiden." I shook his hand. "Marvin." He shook back.

Wait... THE Marvin Minehold? This guy is something else!
