Chapter 24: Tearful Departures

They charged at Victoria and within a few seconds a sonic boom was heard and followed by a blinding flash of light. When everything became Visible again, Jay was unconscious and Victoria now lay in the street surrounded by blood. Andrea got up, shook herself off, and checked Victoria's pulse...there was nothing. Tears began flowing down her cheeks as she held her daughter's dead body in her arms wishing it all was different...her rage for Agathor welled up in her as she heard a familiar laugh". Agathor laughed and said "Well that was quite entertaining...I didn't expect you to actually kill your only daughter just to keep her from me...nonetheless, she's served her purpose...I no longer need her, she was just extra weight".

With each word he said, Andrea's anger continued to skyrocket...he used her daughter, forced her to kill her only child, and destroyed her family...she wasn't thinking straight and charged Agathor. Jay finally regained consciousness and Immediately flew over and together with his wife they scored a direct hit on Agathor before Carl, Vic and Carlos fired a combo of harmonic and chaotic energy and finished agathor off in a giant explosion. Andrea smiled before collapsing onto the street and coughing up blood.

Vic rushed over, and linked with her before pulling away, shaking her head, and saying " I'm sorry...her core is destroyed it looks like we were wrong...you and Andrea need your cores...but I and Carlos don't...it's too much to explain but I'd say she has less than 5 minutes to live". Jay fell to his knees and screamed "No please!! I Can't lose you too...not you...you're my other half...I can't live without you". Andrea reached up and said, "Sweetie, I know it will be hard but I need you to be strong and finish the mission...I knew the risks and I wish you could go with me but it's not your time...promise me we'll meet again". 

Jay said "I-I promise" and Andrea laughed lightly and said "Now that you did, I better not see you with me until the timeline is restored and we're all alive again... and when you see me, pull me into a tight hug and never let go...you better restore the timeline...if you die, I won't forgive you". She smiled before saying "just kiddin-".Before she could finish her sentence, the last bit of air escaped her mouth and she stopped breathing. Jay screamed at the top of his lungs as the corpse of his wife disintegrated into dust and blew away.

Jay punched the concrete and yelled fuck, fuck, fuck" repeatedly until his hands were bloody and swollen. After watching the scene unfold, Carl walked over and said "I hate to interrupt you but it looks like Agathor planned a final 1-2 punch...he's destabilized the sun...if it goes supernova we're gonna be stuck here with no chance to get home...this is if we survive the shockwave...but with our powers drained, it's a good chance whoever goes will also die". Jay stood up and said "I'll go and Carlos said no I will" and Carl said "no...you promised Andrea and Andrea and Jay promised that they'd get both of you home safely...So ill go".

Jay yelled, "No I don't care...everyone else paid the price except for me...as Victoria's father, all of this is my responsibility". Carl patted Jay's shoulder and said" I appreciate it, but I miss my fiancée, plus we all know you're a better more experienced power user than me so I will be going". Before Jay could say anything else. Carl zapped him, knocking him out before turning to Carlos and Vic and saying "We've done the hard part...just go back in time...and take good care of him please". Victoria nodded and said, "We'll finish this, and don't worry, I'll help my father through this".

Carl said, "When I transfer power from the sun, use it to get outta here and don't look back". Vic nodded and said, "We'll be waiting". Carl took off as Jay began to regain consciousness, headed straight toward the sun. When he arrived, he shot a beam at the sun which engulfed it in harmonic energy; slowing its death. He began to draw power from the chaotic energy of its death and he sent the purified product down to Vic and Carlos, who were now in deep meditation pinpointing the day of the battle with Agathor. 

Carl began to scream in pain as the harmonic barrier around the sun collapsed and his powers fell apart. Fortunately for him, his pain didn't last long as the sun's explosion killed him instantly as a shockwave and below zero temperatures approached Earth". Carlos and Vic were hard at work trying to navigate the twisted timeline to find the right moment but just like before, the link destabilized and they were all thrown through time again just as the shockwave reached and obliterated Earth.

When they all regained consciousness and stood up, they found themselves in the living room of Andrea and Jay's house. Jay smelled food so he walked into the Kitchen where he found the table with half-eaten breakfast plates still there as if everyone got up and ran and then it clicked in his head as his memories came flooding back. He remembered they were here eating breakfast when everything went white and he was hoping Andrea would be there too. Jay called out for Andrea's name but he didn't hear anything except small sobs and they seemed to be coming from Victoria's room. 

He quickly forgot about Andrea and headed to his daughter's room and opened the door as the others followed behind him. When he opened the door, he saw nothing but heard the tears so he quickly got on his knees and looked under the bed and there he found his daughter, Victoria.
