story 1 ~ nuclear fallout ! ☄︎⋆ ༘
• a story about a young mc post - nuclear bomb •.·͙*̩̩͙˚̩̥̩̥*̩̩̥͙ ✩ *̩̩̥͙˚̩̥̩̥*̩̩͙‧͙ .
I open my eyes. Good morning. I think. It's hard to tell when you're in a tiny room with no sunlight. I sit up and grab a can of beans and water for breakfast. My food supply is running low. I shouldn't waste it today. I'll eat half of this can and save the rest for tomorrow. I open the can and eat some. It tastes old. I shouldn't be complaining though, it's the only food I have left. I wish I could have more. Although, would it be a good idea to leave the bunker? I don't know how long it's been. Has it only been weeks? Months? Years even? I have no idea anymore. It's been getting lonely down here. I miss my parents. I still remember the look on their face before they left. How long ago was that? Where are they? I take my last bite of the beans. I wish I had more food. Maybe I should go out. No, that's a bad idea. However, it'd be better to go outside and have a chance to live than just stay and starve to death, right? It's risky, but it might be my only chance at survival...
Suddenly, I hear something. It sounds like a voice; a man's voice. Who could be in here? It's crackling? I look behind me. It's the radio! It's working? What is the voice saying? I adjust the antennae to attempt to hear it clearer. "Attention citizens of the United States. It is safe to come out now. As you come outside, be careful of the surrounding area. Your government is doing the best it can to clean up the damage and dispel any radiation from the bomb. Please follow the signs directly to the government shelter. Please do not stray away from the path or you will suffer the consequences of nuclear radiation." I stood still. Is this real? Can I actually leave this dark, dull place? Quickly, I get up. As I approach the door, I think to myself. "Is this actually happening? Can I trust this?" I ignore my negative thoughts. This could be my chance for a better life. Maybe my parents are alive after all. Maybe they already reached the government officials. I could see them again. I look back at the bunker for the last time. Then, I open the door and take a step outside. No going back now.
I'm outside. After what felt like decades, I'm finally back outside. The light is blinding. I close my eyes. Once I adjust to the sunlight, I open my eyes and take small steps forward. Looking around, I notice how different it looks now. I remember how it used to be a bright, sunny neighborhood with the greenest and healthiest grass, the most gentle breeze that rustled the leaves ever so softly. I remember the sweet scent of blooming flowers, the calm lake, large groups of birds flying over your head. I always loved nature. It was pure tranquility. However, it didn't seem that way now. The grass is short and yellow, the trees were losing their leaves, and the lake water looked green. It's a vast difference compared to how it looked before. I look around again, just to take in the scene around me. There's basically nothing. There's no evidence of any living thing. No people, no animals. Where is everyone? I shouldn't worry though, they're probably already to safety. Now, where are those signs that the man over the radio was talking about? I look ahead of me. There they are. I cross the street and make my way over to the signs along a pebble path.
The walk felt like hours, but I think I made it. Up ahead of me is a giant camp. I walk closer to it. Each step, I felt more and more excited. Did I finally make it? Will I finally be able to live in peace? I hear something. I hear chattering. There's people here! I hear other people! I walk even closer and closer. Finally, I see them. I stare at them, and they stare at me. A lady, who was sitting in a folding chair, calls someone over. He was a large man, big and strong. He walked over to me and for the first time in so long, someone finally talks to me, "Come with me, we'll find you a place to stay in. What's your name?" I follow him. I told him my name. He responds in a happy, suspicious way. He leads me to a room. I walk inside. I can't believe my eyes. I feel the tears start to form. "Mom! Dad!" The man closes the door behind me. I run to my parents. I've never felt this much joy in so long.
