Picture of Spencer over there ----->
Chapter 2
Laurie gave me a look that said that she thought that there was definitely more to it than just a paper jam. Too bad I had no intentions of telling her the extra details.
“Did Spencer bewitch you with his charm?” she questioned.
“I wasn’t aware that he had any charms,” I looked over the rim of my coffee cup as I took a small sip.
“Yeah right,” she scoffed clearly disbelieving. “ Spencer could make a straight guy doubt himself just by smiling.”
“I don’t think I’ve witnessed that smile of his other charms.”
“The discrete muscle flexing? The subtle, gentle touch on your upper arm or on the small of your back? His killer eye contact that makes you feel like it’s only you and him in a room together when there’s a huge crowd of people around you?” I shook my head at all of her questions. “The corny compliments? The heavenly smile? The hint of mysteriousness hiding behind his eyes?”
“No, I don’t think so.”
“Huh.” Looking into space, her eyes drifted off to the warm coffee sup in my hand. “I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.”
“It doesn’t really matter to me,” I slumped down in my wheelie chair.
“The guy is gorgeous. You must care just a wee bit,” she held her thumb and forefinger close together so there was barely any space between them.
“No, not really,” I laughed.
“If you say so. Anyway, we need to head down to the conference room for a quick department meeting.”
“My first meeting?” My eyes widened. “On my first day?! This is so cool! Ah! I’m so excited!” I screeched and Laurie plugged her ears.
“Don’t get too ahead of yourself now. You’re going to sit in the back and not say a word. If you do, you’re dead.”
“Okay. I can do that!” Wordless and super giddy, I trailed behind Laurie to the conference room. People were already seated when we arrived. Laurie took a seat at the big oval shaped table and I took a seat with some other interns in a small corner.
“You’re the summer intern right?” I looked over at a red head who looked nice in high waist cotton shorts, bright blue ear rings, a bright yellow cut off shirt, and white Toms.
“Yes I am.”
“Amber Hawkins, nice to meet you,” she stuck her hand out.
“Kherrington Crosswell,” I shook her hand and gave her a timid smile.
“Kerri, come here would you?” I pulled my hand away and looked at Laurie who was looking at me.
“Excuse me,” I walked over to Laurie and looked down at her since she wwas sitting in a chair.
“Heads up, the ginger over there really is heartless. She’ll chew you up and spit you out. Avoid her at all costs and she has the hots for your man so watch out.” I scowled at the last part but thanked her for the rest.
“Goodness Laurie, you’re so nice, I’ve read stories and stuff online about interns and their bosses and you are an angel compared to some people.”
“What can I say? I was raised to have a heart.”
“Oh my gosh, I want you to hang out with me and my best friend Suse tonight!”
