Lyric Holloway is a 16 year old boy who lives with his parents in a small town tucked away in the hills of Verde Sevan. Lyric was an average student, he liked to spend his free time listening to music or studying as most students do in his town. His school wasn't too far from his house, he usually walked since his parents aren't home most of the time. He was never one to get involved in any risky business and preferred to lead a simple life. Until one day, where all of that changed…
It was dark outside, the rain was crashing down like a waterfall as it hit the roof of the small cottage house, it hit the lake near the house even harder. Lyric was home alone as usual, his parents were out of town. He enjoyed the sound of the music on the radio he listened to with the slight sound of the rain outside. Lyric quickly stopped his music when he heard a noise coming from down the hall. At first, he thought it was the house settling, but when the noise persisted, he suspected something wasn't right.
Lyric sighed quietly, he got off of his bed, walking toward the door of his room as the wood beneath his feet creaked loudly. He slowly opened his door, taking a peek out into the hallway, his heart pounding against his chest. He saw a dark figure that stood at the end of the hallway, it seemed to be facing away. Lyric almost screamed but he covered his mouth quickly. The figure slowly turned, Lyric took a deep breath, shutting his door as quietly as possible. He then went to his closet, going inside and shutting it. He heard the creaking of the wooden floorboards and strange breathing noises.
The boy was quite frightened at this point, he took his phone out and tried to call his parents but no one answered, he then tried to dial 911 but the storm made it so he couldn't call anyone. He realized he couldn't call for help now.
The storm outside worsened, making the lights flicker and eventually go out. The only source of light was a small candle that was on his desk near the window. Lyric knew he had to be careful, he couldn't hear the footsteps anymore as they appeared to have walked further down the hall where his parents bedroom is. He opened the closet door slightly and scanned the room for anything he could use as a weapon. But nothing seemed to be good enough, or light enough to carry as a weapon.
Lyric decided to shut the closet door again, trying to calm his breathing. There was a loud screeching noise, he immediately knew it was his door opening, he held his breath. There were soft footsteps outside of the closet, then a small meow. Lyric let out a sigh of relief as he peeked out of the closet door again. There was a black cat sitting outside the closet. Lyric smiled slightly, thinking it might've been the cat making the noise earlier and that he was just hallucinating.
The cat's eyes looked strange, they were almost human-like. Lyric didn't question this and gently pet the cat. The small cat purred, rubbing against his hand. Lyric calmed almost all the way now. He slowly came out of the closet, when he closed the door behind him, there was a loud crash. His window had shattered from pressure, causing the candle to go out from the gust of wind and some rain.
The room was now pitch black, besides the small moonlight that shined in from the now broken window. The sensation of being watched had crept upon Lyric now. He felt the presence of something or someone besides the cat. There was a warm breath down the back of his neck, he gulped, trying to steady his breathing. Lyric froze at this point, not knowing what to do.
A deep, raspy voice whispered into his ear,
"You belong to me."
Lyric felt his fight or flight come in when the sensation of the figure standing in front of him appeared, he tried to run but his legs wouldn't move, claws ripped at his skin, teeth sinking into his neck. pain coursed through his body as he tried to fight back, a warm crimson liquid spilled from the pains on his body. The figure was too strong.
The storm raged on outside, Lyric knew he was going to die. He closed his eyes and prayed for everything end.
When he opened them again, he was no longer in his house. He was surrounded by darkness, and he could hear screams coming from all directions. Lyric tried to move, but he was bound to a chair. A spotlight shone down on him, a figure stepped out of the darkness.
It seemed to be the same figure from before, based on its height and shape, he could see it more clearly but still couldn't make out what it looked like exactly, his vision was blurred but he felt no pain and all the previous wounds were gone.
The figure claimed that it wanted his soul. Lyric remembered hearing stories about some creature that lurked in the hills of Verde Sevan when he was younger but never believed it until it was standing in front of him, face to face with this creature, it appeared to have sharp teeth and wide lifeless eyes.
Lyric knew he had to escape before it was too late, he struggled against his restraints. They didn't seem to break or move. He then felt a sharp pain in his chest, he took a gasp of air, looking down and seeing the creature's jagged claws impaling him, his light shirt became a dark coat of red.
As his life force drained from him, Lyric knew he was doomed, he had fallen victim to the creature. His life flashed before his eyes, wishing he lived his life better than this
The creature let out a ear-splitting cackle. Lyric let his body relax, his vision fading into total darkness as he felt there was nothing he could do.
Lyric opened his eyes, he was in his room again, it was bright outside. He sat up, soaked in sweat, and breathing heavily. He lifted his shirt and saw the scar on his chest, he sighed, laying back down and seeing a black ink on his ceiling that read:
"You'll never get rid of me."
