I rushed towards the Nedelander Theatre carrying my camera bag. I ran to the door and reached for my card. I finally got a hold of it and swiped it onto the keypad. The door unlocked and I entered quickly. I nearly ran into a stage manager trying to get to the dressing room I shared with one Kara Lindsey.
"Woah, Jocelyn, slow down there!" The stage manager, Alice, joked
"Sorry Alice. I woke up late and the shows in like an hour. And I'm a total klutz." I laughed trying to catch my camera bag as it slipped out of my hands.
"You're fine! Just make sure you're ready to go?" Alice then walked away and I continues my journey down the hall
I passed by dressing rooms full of newsies stretching and getting ready. I waved and smiled at some as the greeted me. Finally, I made it to Kara and I's dressing room. I kicked the door open more and carried in my camera and camera stand. My stuff fell to the floor and Kara turned around with a smile.
"Hey Jocey!" She put on some blush as the finishing touches of her makeup.
"Hey K! I'm here so late!" I laughed as I walked to the small closet we had
I grabbed my stage crew shirt and black boots. I closed both the closet door and dressing room door so I could change my shirt. I tugged my shirt off and put on the stage crew one as Kara started talking to me. I listened as I sat down in my chair and kicked off my shoes. I tied the boots on and tied my hair back into two braids. I laughed at her stories while unzipping my camera bag and throwing the strap around my neck.
"Alright, I'll see you later Ms. Lindsey. I gotta go take some pics!" And with that I exited our room and went to the others
I stood in the doorway of a dressing room which contained Ben Cook, Sky Flaherty, and a few others who I couldn't make out. Ben spotted me and beckoned me in the small room.
"Hey guys!"
They all greeted me in return as Sky threw his foot onto the wall.
"Mind if I shoot?" I held my camera in one hand
They all shook their heads no and I began to click some pictures. The boys talked to me a bit before I decided to move on to some other dressing rooms. I walked two down and knocked on their doorframe. I looked up and saw... Mike Faist? Oh no. No no no. I could not do this. I have been crushing on this guy since a month into the show. He turned towards me and gave a side smile.
"Mind if I take some backstage pictures?" I asked quietly
Mike turned toward the other two people in the room which turned out to be Ben Fankhauser and Andrew Keenan-Bolger and Tommy Bracco!. Wonderful.
"No, of course you can!" Andrew replied. I gave a grateful smile in return and raised my camera.
I took a few shots before Mike spoke.
"I saw Fear Street." I just about dropped my camera
"Oh yeah?" I lowered it and let it drop to hang on my neck
"Yeah it was amazing." I blushed lightly "I mean, it must've been tough."
"Yeah it was. Turns out that faking dying isn't the easiest." I joked and Mike laughed "No, it was great. Sadie was great. Love that girl. It was truly an amazing experience." I spoke from the heart
Suddenly, the overcom said it was 5 minutes till places. I said my goodbyes to the four boys and sped towards the lobby. I walked into the lobby and then into the theatre itself. I walked up to the very front and to my reserved seat. I pulled out my wide lens camera from the bag tied around my neck and held in in my hands. A few minutes later the excited chatter of the theatre died down and the overture started. The crowd erupted in applause and the curtains opened. I raised my camera and for a few shots of Jeremy and Andrew.
