Mad Hatter (Dazai x reader)

Chapter 11

 "Wow Odasaku, you're early again," Kanae said when she descended down the stairs of bar Lupin.

"Kanae, is Dazai with you?" Odasaku greeted and asked Kanae.

"I'm here!" Dazai exclaimed and rushed down the stairs and sat down before Kanae.

"I won!" He then shouted and raised his arms and did a little victory dance.

"Seriously, you compete on who sits down first? That's childish. (子供っぽい。)" Kanae said as she sat down. The bartender gave Dazai his usual whiskey and Kanae her galaxy cocktail.

Galaxy cocktail is a mix of butterfly pea tea with vodka.

"Wow! It looks so fancy!" Dazai immediately said after looking at the glass. The cocktail has different shades of blue and purple, making it look like the galaxy, hence the name.

Kanae: You can be amazed by such small things, sometimes I wonder if you are even a mafia executive.

Dazai: Seriously, you think of me as a child?

Kanae: You act like one.

Oda: Dazai has always acted like this since the day I met him.

Kanae: Not surprised.

There was silence.

Dazai suddenly raised his whiskey glass.

Dazai: What should we cheer for?

Kanae: You didn't try to kill yourself today at all.

Dazai: That's it? (それだけ？) That's all you have to celebrate for today?

Kanae: Nothing special happened today, except for having a nearly 2 hour tea time and torturing someone.

Dazai: Odasaku, what about your job today? What did you do today?

Oda: Compared to what Kanae said she had done today, my tasks will only bore you.

Dazai: There you go again, being secretive about your job. Arisu, help me get Odasaku to spill the beans about his day.

Kanae: If he doesn't want to tell us then just let him be.

Dazai: Arisu, you're no fun. Why do you support Odasaku keeping a secret about his job?

Kanae: I don't support it, I'm just being respectful of his privacy.

Kanae finished her cocktail. As usual, after Kanae finished her cocktail, the bartender immediately gave her a cup of butterfly pea tea.

"So, what should we toast for?" Kanae asked as she sipped her tea.

"To the stray dogs," Dazai said with eyes closed. He held up his glass. Oda and Kanae followed Dazai and raised their glasses.

"To the stray dogs, (ストレイドッグに。)" All of them said in unison. 

They talked for another while before Kanae announced that she'll be leaving, after finishing 3 cups of butterfly pea tea.

It was 00:00 by the time Kanae left the bar.

She walked towards the cemetery. It was dark there, but the eeriness of the place doesn't scare her.

She stopped in front of a grave.

The headstone of the grave was marked with the name:

Arisu Beatrix

有栖ビアトリクス

"Mama...I miss you... (ママ...会いたい...)" Kanae said in front of the grave. She sat down next to it.

"How are you doing on the other side? It's lonely without you here. Are you watching me from above?" Kanae asked, looking up at the sky.

"Clear skies today, I can see the stars, they are so bright today."

Silence.

Kanae stayed until it was 01:00. "I better go now, I have work tomorrow, see you soon," Kanae said and walked back home, never turning her head back.
