"Isn't this fun?" Lin had her whole body in all sorts of crazy dance moves, jiggling her fingers as if she were persuading Jisoo to do the same. "Come on!" She loudly shouted.
Heavy music was blasting into Jisoo's ears that she could barely even hear the words of her best friend, desperately wanting her to move an ounce of her body to show that she was at least having some fun. It was no use. She hated parties. Like hated. And hated the way that Lin would drag her into it.
They came to Jeong's party a few minutes early. Several cars were already lined up along the driveway which was probably expected.
His house was huge, futuristically themed with a strictly white and black color. It had marble columns at the entrance near the door, resembling a greek temple, and other than that, had minimal plain furniture inside. Something you'd see when you ask a real estate agent to give you a tour on a new house.
Popular, rich, and handsome. Jeong looked like he came out of a vogue magazine— and he knew he was hot. Though Jisoo never understood why everyone would be fawning over him, like Lin, all the time, when she didn't spare him a single glance.
Lights flared up all over the place, and the grand mansion was replaced by the smell of underage drinking, and horny highschool students.
"Can't we leave now, Lin?" Her throat felt it was burning up by the amount of times she's already repeated the phrase to the drunk dazed girl in front of her.
Lin ignored her neverending complaints.
She let out a depressing sigh, and decided to finally leave the dance floor. Attempts of getting Lin to do something she wants was zero percent. Not at all.
The slim, black dress she had been forced to wear was rather uncomfortable. She kept readjusting the thin spaggheti straps that kept falling down every time she made some sort of exaggerated movement, and the four inch heels she strutted in, was outside her comfort zone.
"Stupid, stupid Jisoo." She kept muttering curse words to herself. Usually people would find it rather odd to refer to themselves in third person, but it was a habit that happened when she thought she was being dumb. "Jisoo, you keep getting yourself into these situations. You don't belong here."
One thing about being in a party hosted by a spoiled brat is that there are way too many doors and crowds of people that blocked her line of escape. Her height was average enough, yet average did not help the girl get a glimpse of the nearest exit.
"This is so so—" She squeezed her eyes shut in frustration,"Excuse me!" And tried moving through the crowds, finally spotting the front door.
Her anxiety quickly calmed down, taking the breath of fresh air, away from the hefty bass of the loud music.
"Oh shut the fuck up Jeong!"
"Jennie, don't you actually dare! I swear I'll—"
The voices came to an abrupt stop as Jisoo heard the slam of the door, and behind her, the presence of a familiar face appeared.
It was different this time. The girl she saw a few days ago who looked reserved, and mysterious, had her face all reddened up from anger and hair like a wild child.
"What are you looking at?" Wild child spat, not directly onto her face, and had a menacing glare.
Jisoo straightened her posture, fixed her spaghetti straps for the hundredth time, and put her attention back to the ground.
"You seem like you had a great time." Her tone was sarcastic, subtly mocking the wild child.
"Right," She finally noticed the way her hair strands were messy, and pulled out a small mirror from the clutches of her purse,"Didn't mean to get all snappy on you."
Wild child added,"As you can see, I had an argument with an asshole a few minutes ago, and I'd be happy to get in an argument with you if you're also an asshole."
"I don't think I am." Jisoo chuckled. She found the girl to be somewhat funny. Interesting indeed.
"What are you doing out here then? Did you also get into an argument with an asshole?" Her attention still laid on her small reflection, touching the parts of her hair that needed to be done again.
"No. Just needed air."
"Are you one of those girls who consider themselves 'different' from the rest?" Her darkened eyes were on Jisoo's lean figure, looking at her, up and down.
"Do you always ask a lot of questions?" Eye contact was eventually made between the two. Jisoo noticed the others dark brown orbs, comparatively to hers, like she was looking at her own eyes and seeing herself through her lenses.
She wondered if the other saw her the same, but maybe her huge glasses got in the way.
Silence abruptly stopped their conversation and things got awkward. Neither didn't know what they wanted to say, knowing in the first place they were strangers, and Wild Child's exceptionally good social skills faded away. They still kept eye contact in that remainder of the time. A contest of unspoken wills, and if one remained to keep looking, it would be a declaration of 'strength'.
Wild child took a step forward, not breaking their eye contact, and another, and another till their lips were only inches away. She tilted her head.
Jisoo could see the intricate details of wild child's face... where her lips had that beautiful soft lipstick, and overall she was a goddess straight out of a movie. Her hair no longer was messy. It was straight and flowy, down to her waist.
She softly tucked Jisoo's hair behind her ear.
"Has anyone told you that you look even more beautiful under this moonlight?" Confidence was stern in her voice, and spoke light as a feather,"The book you read that day—"
She paused and didn't see that Jisoo was beginning to be red, not from anger, but from the boldness of the girl.
"Eleanor and Park, was it?" She took a step back,"That's one of my favorites."
"Sorry for that day by the way. I made it seem like I didn't see you, but I found it cute that you were staring at me for quite a long time."
Blush came up on Jisoo's cheeks. She had never been complimented like that before, and didn't know what to say.
"I'm Kim Jennie." The girl flashed a cheeky smile, offering her hand out for a friendly shake.
"Kim Jisoo." She only nodded her head a bit. Hands became sweaty, and she didn't want to shake the other's hand, transmitting her stinked up nervousness from her palms. She wiped it off with her dress and continued on saying,"Perks of a Wallflower is also one of my favorites. And... it was probably weird of me to stare, so I apologize for that too."
Apologize? Why did she mutter out that sentence like she was presenting an idea to her boss at a formal meeting? Stay calm. Don't get all dumb and stupid.
Jennie. A nice name for a nice girl like her, though it seemed vaguely familiar when she had just met her a few days before, and introduced herself to her right now.
Jennie sat down on the front porch steps, making sure her own tight dress didn't get stained by left over dirt.
"Sit." It wasn't a command, and alternatively a request,"You look uncomfortable in those heels. It's okay. I know the pain."
She accepted her offer and they sat next to each other, the sides of their legs touching.
"Why?" Jennie asked.
This time, Jisoo was the one tilting her head; in confusion.
"I mean— why is it your favorite?"
"It reminds me a lot of myself I guess."
"Ah~ and what about yourself?"
"You definitely ask way too many questions." She huffed out. They barely knew anything about the other, but apparently the quiet moment they shared under the maple tree created a quiet bond in return.
They were too comfortable to be strangers and too distantly placed to be friends.
