There was something by the water. Something . . . unusual.

Ezra paused for a moment, his hands gripping a bucket of seashells. He stalked closer as he noticed it, assuming it was a seal from the viewpoint he was in.

He turned to his best friend, Alexei, who just shrugged uselessly in response.

But as he got closer, he began to notice the angle of a shoulder, a knee, the curve of a hip. Perhaps a woman than, no a girl. Slim and young, judging by her height to be no older than seventeen.

"Hey Lexi! Check this out!" Ezra called to Alexei, who he'd guessed was behind him. When there was no reply, Ezra turned his head over his shoulder to see the place Alexei was presumed to be. Nothing. Ezra sighed and turned his head back to the girl.

Was she . . . dead? Ezra didn't know, he'd never seen death before, nevertheless for a girl. Ezra bent down slowly into a crouch to observe the girl for a moment.

She had long black hair that reached her waist, softly billowing in the wind. She wore a black shirt drenched in blood, slightly torn near her shoulder, a visible wound underneath, bleeding very badly.

He reached for her shoulder, but as he did so, her eyelids flung open, a luminous ruby-red. A shriek of horror escaped Ezra as he cried out in surprise, jolting away in shock.

"What the hell!? I thought you were dead!" He exclaimed.

The girl turned her head towards at him, registering the scene. Then she looked back up at the sky, and whispered, "so did I."
