Narin liked to spend most of her free time training, especially boxing. At the moment, she was also in the gym, where she could work on a punching bag. The boy she was supposed to protect sat on the bench next to her and just watched her. Their relationship was still quite fresh and tense, after all, only one day had passed since the assassin accepted a completely new task.
After a few minutes, Itzel appeared in the gym and looked at the sitting boy with great surprise. The black woman looked at Narin with a question mark.
"Don't even ask. " Woman replied. "I've got him up to my nose." She shook her head and continued punching the bag.
"I want to know? " Martinez stopped the assassin's gear and looked her companion in the eye. "Who's that? "
"My new job. " The black-haired girl replied and looked at the silent brunet.
"Don't look at me like that, I'm silent as you ordered. " The boy said with disgust.
"You just said something now." Vazquez snorted sternly and then went back to talking to her friend. "He's Berni's nephew. " She said to her and Itzel raised her eyebrows.
"Nephew? Hm..." She nodded. "Since he's still alive, I'm guessing his death isn't part of your quest, huh?"
"I'm supposed to protect him from this. " She said then sighed.
"Before killing? " She asked, practically laughing. "Please tell me you're joking."
"I wish. " Narin shook her head, then took off her gloves and drank water from the bottle standing next to it. "What are you looking at? " She snorted at the boy who was looking at her, and he immediately turned his head away.
"You could've turned down the job. " Itzel interjected in a half-whisper, which caught the attention of her companion.
"Mm, I could. " She nodded, then set the bottle down on the table and looked at the black woman. "But I didn't. " She put the gloves back on and started punching the sack.
"Why? " Martinez asked in the meantime but got no answer. "Reinita?"
Narin stopped training, lifted her head high and sighed heavily.
"I'm only doing it for him. " She said to Itzel.
"Bernardo? " Woman guessed.
"I owe him a lot. " Assassin continued. "I'll repay him a little now though." She added and went back to training.
"So how long are you going to protect him? "
"Probably three..." She pounded harder on the bag.
"Days? "
"Three fucking months. " The black-haired girl said what Itzel was speechless, and then she laughed quietly in disbelief. "I can kill him and pretend someone else did it if you want."
"No. " Narin interrupted her. "I'll keep my word to Berni. " She continued training. "Where's Candela? " She asked, changing the subject.
"She's doing her job. " Black woman replied. "But there's no need to worry, she'll be fine." She added seeing her friend's gaze. "It was easy so... "
"Easy, but it's Candela. " Narin interjected. "If she comes back alive, it's good, and if not... " She hit the bag.
"What? Hm? " Itzel asked. "You won't care?"
Assassin laughed softly.
"Why would I? " She stopped to look her friend in the eye. "If she dies there..." She looked at the boxing bag. "It'll be her fault, not mine." She said again, glancing at Itzel. "I taught her what she needed, even though I didn't have to. She preferred to spend hours on the phone and not listen to me... " She hit the bag with her right hand. "If she dies..." She hit her other hand. "It'll only be her fault." She looked at the black woman. "If she doesn't use this knowledge, she'll die. She hesitates, she'll die. "
"Ah, Narin..." Martinez said incredulously. "Do you really think so?" Assassin watched her companions reaction.
Vazquez looked at her with a smirk.
"I don't care. " She replied and went back to training.
"Then why did you help her then? "
The black-haired girl stopped again and looked resignedly at her companion.
"Maybe it was a mistake and I should've just killed her instead." She said indifferently. "I don't know, Itzel. " She added. "I took her in and taught her how to survive. It's up to her what she does with that knowledge. " She looked at the black woman. "Can we not talk about this anymore?"
"What about me? " Martinez asked, carefully watching her reaction.
Narin just sighed.
"Stop asking me about it. "
"Wouldn't my death affect you too?" She asked in a broken voice, but the black-haired girl didn't answer anything, she continued to assume an indifferent expression on her face. "Narin?! "
"If I answer you..." She looked at her companion. "My words will hurt you more than a bullet would kill you." She added, then stepped aside to hide her boeing gloves.
Itzel made a straight line from her lips and shook her head in disbelief. She felt a great pressure on her heart. Narin didn't say anything literally, but her words still hurt her. Does she really care about all this? Does she really care about nothing?
"I thought I'd find you here, chinita!" Mauricio's cheerful voice called.
All three looked at him. Itzel just huffed, not happy to see this guy.
"Yo. " Serrano saluted the black woman, who just gave him the middle finger and stepped aside. "Ah, kind as always." He approached Narin, who was wiping her neck with a towel. "Chinita, although I'm hoping for a slightly warmer welcome from you."
"What do you want? " She asked without even looking at him, and her cold words immediately washed the smile off the brunet's face.
"And I hoped... " Man touched his heart with his hand, showing how much Narin's words hurt him. After a while, he saw a strange boy sitting on a bench, and that surprised him even more. "Oh? And who is it? "
Vazquez looked at where her companion was pointing.
"Who is this? " He whispered to the black-haired girl again. "What's his name?"
"I don't know. " She replied immediately, which caught the brunet's attention. "I didn't ask. " She added seeing her friend's expression. "Oi! " She called to the other boy. "What's your name, kid?! "
He just shook his head in disbelief.
"William Morales, but everyone calls me Billy. " He replied. "And I'm not a kid, I'm older than you."
"Ooh, really? " Mauricio looked at Narin curiously. "How old? "
"Twenty-four. " She said.
"That old?! " Brunet called and looked at Billy, then shook his head.
Morales folded his arms, apparently offended, because another person called him an old man.
"So... " Brunet looked at Narin again. "I heard you needed me for something, huh? What's up, chinita? " He leaned against the wall and looked at his friend.
Vazquez smiled meaningfully at him.
"Oh no, I don't like that look. " He said at once.
"You know that masquerade ball that's going to be next Thursday?" Woman asked, to which he nodded. "I need to get a ticket and I know you know the organiser. " She said. "I would slip in there and without it, but... " She put down the towel and approached the brunet. "If you're here, I have to use you." She added, at which Serrano chuckled softly. "I'll repay you. "
Muricio forced a cocky grin on his face.
"Deal? "
Brunet nodded and shook her hand.
"Of course, chinita. Deal." He said, standing right in front of her.
"I'll go with you. " Itzel interjected, which caught their attention. "I'll take care of the escape plan later."
Narin nodded.
"Fine, let it be. " She looked at Mauricio again. "Now... Let's go have some fun." She smiled.
