Before Mauricio reached a friend, Narin went to the gym again and practiced boxing as usual. A moment earlier, she had been even more annoyed by her conversation with Bernardo. The elder called her saying he was very worried about her, and the moment he mentioned the proposal, about her seeing a psychologist, Vazquez simply hung up and decided to take it out even more on the punching bag.
After half an hour of time, Serrano also arrived, and just before entering the gym, he encountered Itzel, who seemed to be waiting for him.
"Should I be afraid? " He asked immediately, taking off his sunglasses and putting them on his shirt.
"Probably. " She replied, glaring at him sternly.
"I didn't do anything. " He said immediately, raising his hands in a defensive gesture. "My hands are clean... in a figurative sense." He added, looking at his hands.
"You're going to Narin's, aren't you? " She interjected, changing the subject.
Her words surprised the brunet a bit. The man lowered his hands, frowned, and sighed heavily.
"If that's what you're accusing me of, then yes." He replied after a moment.
"Can you be serious for a moment? " The black woman snorted.
"Duuuh. " He shook his head. "You know the answers to the questions you're asking me, so why even ask?"
Itzel rolled her eyes.
"I wanted to talk to you for a while. "
"As you can see... we're talking. " He said and put his hands in his pockets. "To the point, Itzel."
The woman stared at him for a short time in silence. She answered after a moment's thought.
"I love Narin. " She said to which Serrano raised his eyebrows but said nothing. The trader wasn't at all surprised by her confession. "She's important to me... That's why... I don't believe what I'm about to say myself, but..." She sighed and looked at him again. "I think she needs you. Perhaps even more than ever before. "
Mauricio was still silent but listened attentively to what young Martinez had to say.
"I can see her getting lost in her own thoughts, but you seem to know that too." She continued, and the brunet just nodded. "I've never liked to admit it, but I want her good so I have to say things I don't want to."
"Because they concern me? " The trader guessed.
"Yeah. " She replied then sighed. "Narin values you and respects your opinion. I know from Bernardo that you two are close... Unfortunately, I also noticed it myself. " She shook her head. "Anyway... She needs you so I just want you to be there for her."
Mauricio laughed softly, hearing her words, and his behavior slightly confused the black woman.
"You think it's funny? "
"And why do you think I'm here, huh? " He became serious as looked into her eyes. "I know Narin inside and out. I know when she's angry, sad or lost. I know you've never liked me, and to be honest you didn't like me either. " He said, squinting his eyes. "Since we're being honest..." He waved his hand. "I'm here for her. I came because I realize what state she is in now. "
"You came back from your earlier trip for her, too." The woman reminded him. "Cute. "
"Just save it. " Trader interjected. "I've had enough of your jokes." He shook his head. "I'm only here for her, nothing else. You can believe what you want, but Narin is very dear to me. No matter what you or anyone else thinks, I don't fucking care. " He approached her. "I care about her more than anyone else so stop these stupid games and don't bother me." He said, staring her in the eyes. "I've been avoiding arguments because of chinita, but I'm sick of it. " He waved his hand. "You can say what you want, think what you want. And I know what I should do, so..." He spread his hands and then moved forward, avoiding Itzel. "That's it. "
