TROUBLED HEARTS

Chapter 1

ROWAN

"One decent , hardworking PA , thats all what I have asked you to find for me these past few months !" I banged the table for the umpteenth time .

"I am sorry sir , I'll bring in more applications by tomorrow ." said David hanging down his head .

I shooed him away and paced around my office . It has been 6 months since my father has handed the company over to me . It was always decided and I was prepared too , to take over the company since years .

The only major problem I had encountered with this job was finding a PA .

All 6 of the assistants lasted not for more than a month and with a rather important meeting tomorrow I was without a PA to help me out .

A temporary assistant would work than none at all and so maybe I should compromise a little.

I gave David a call - " David , find me a Personal assistant on your own . I dont want to interview and waste my time . I'd rather that you do it and arrange one by tomorrow ."

I hushed , its a relief that I dont have to interview them , all the ladies that come for an interview do so with ulterior motives , less in need for work and more for attention and trying to woe me .

A knock on door and David came in again " Sir , a PA has been arranged for the meeting tomorrow. Do you want to check her file ?"

"No , just email her all the details of the presentation and ask her to be ready for the same ."

" Sir ? A presentation on the very first day ? Wouldn't you want to interview her first ?"

" No."

I was too riled up for it and if I ended up rejecting her , I might be left with no one for the meeting tomorrow.

SELENA

Life gave me a good unexpected surprise last evening when I got a call from LT Interprises where I was accepted as PA .

But I was skeptical how it could work out so easily when I had not even been interviewed . But I was warned saying "He hires to fire."

I nonetheless will have to try my best to stick for as long as possible, atleast until I am successful paying my education loan and my mothers treatment and stay at daycare .

This was a lot but I knew I could handle it , until I couldnt . I have barely been able to make ends meet after my father decided he wasn't able to take care of my disabled mother and abandoned us after one terrible accident , he also decided to take the meager savings my mother managed to make . There wasn't a person I hated more in life than that man .

"Selena ! Please dont wear those black pants again baby . Try this sexy black dress !"

Alice threw the dress to my face that I sure wasnt wearing.

"Alice ! I am ready , besides I want to make a good impression as a PA . I dont wanna look sexy ." not that I could .

" You need to look sexy ! Thats Rowan ! Have you googled him ? "
I did and I shouldnt have .

"I am not seducing him . Get those thoughts out of your mind . Now . Okay I'll rush . Bye " I kissed and waved my bestfriend a good bye .

I couldn't believe I was hired and sent for a meeting without any interview .
I hoped I wasn't going to disappoint and walked inside .

ROWAN

"May I come in sir ?" I heard a sweet voice call .

She would be my PA I was informed by reception of.

"Yeah" I groaned and looked up. I stared at one very different and annoying face .

No this was not happening. Where did David find this woman . She couldn't be my PA .

I would die of a hard d**k . Luscious curves, long skimmed legs , her black rimmed specs , those lips - brown painted lips , and those hair - that tight bound bun held by a clip I wanted to rush and take off and see her waves fall on her shoulders, dark brown eyes .

What was wrong with me ?

I averted my eyes fast and walked out of office past her as fast as I could while she followed with click of her heels .

"Off to a meeting , hope you've studied the presentation well." I grumbled.

"Yes sir , I'll do my best. " I needed her to stop talking. And I had to fire her . I could barely meet her eyes , what was she ?

Her sweet scent of vanilla and something vintage followed me and I had to clamp a hand over my nose while I walked to the meeting.

"Good morning." They stood at my enterence .

"Good morning, lets start the meeting."

My PA stepped forward and I had no choice but to torturously follow her words and the way her hands moved and the her bangs falling on that face which she tried her best to get rid off .

I was more focused on accessing her but it didnt avert me from noticing that she owned the room. She studied that project in one night and executed it like she created it .

I watched as the room seemed enraptured by her . Not one person took their gaze off her . Niether could I .

She lived to her awesome resume . She had skills , good language and that beauty . Damn . It didnt escape my eye that she had and eye to eye contact with every single person in the room throughout the meeting but not me.

Not once . That irked me.

It also didnt miss my eyes that one particular person of my office - Ryle , stared at her like he owned her. He didnt .

SELENA

He was - handsome would be an understatement. I could barely stop my jaw from dropping when I saw him , definitely better than the pictures .

Better ?

He was the hottest , se**iest man I had seen ever . Yes hotter than my book boyfriends ! Thats never happened before.

But so much arrogance . He barely looked at me in the eye or had an introductory talk .

It took me a few minutes to gather myself and complete the meeting without looking at those intense dark black eyes and going insane with fury and something else that simmered deep in my stomach.

"WHAT ? I need to remember all of this ?!" I skimmed through over a hundred pages that Lara handed me .

She sighed " yes , he is very difficult to keep up with . I hope he finds you worthy enough. Good luck ."

"Um , thanks ."

I had to remember all of this !?

A bell rang on my desk and I knew it was my cue . First PA duty call.
I knocked and entered on my toes . I hoped it would be an easy first task .

He looked up and observed me from head to toe for a few minutes. I'd always felt conscious about my figure , my love handles , always wondering whether I looked weird and most specifically my psoriasis .

I'd applied satisfactory amount of makeup and medication, were they still very visible ? I bound my fingers tight so my pitted nails weren't seen . I peeked to check if there were any scales of scalp psoriasis on my shoulder .

"Selena ? Are you okay ? "
I met his concerned eyes " Yes , s-si-sir " I stuttered. He must think he got an idiot for PA .

"I need a coffee at 10:05 . Its 10:08 already . What are you doing ?" He spoke in that haughty tone while still staring at the screen he worked on . If he was being an as*hole the least he could do was look in the eye . I knew it .

Handsome men are just lathered in so much superiority complex and when they are rich ? Well it's a disaster .
This was one .

" Yes sir, willgetitrightaway." I rushed backwards before I would voice my thoughts .

I went to the coffee arena . I didn't know his preference so I went on making it my style hoping he would like it . Or atleast gulp it down without any comments .
