As Hammer to Fall by Queen echoes in his car, Steve anxiously taps on the steering wheel. The music is there playing as background noise. He replayed Dustin's story in his head, to try to better understand it. The monster could be back.
"Wait a sec how big?" Steve blurted out
He held his hands close together, showing the size of the creature
"First, he was like this(small)"
That once-tiny creature he found in his trash can. He stretched his hands out as far as he could
"Now he's like this,"(big) " Dustin looked back at Steve and then back at Madison.
Steve focused his attention on the road. Madison put her hands on her face." I swear if this is just a little lizard."
'It's NOT!"
Steve raised an eyebrow, keeping his eyes on the road "How do you know it's not"
"Because his face opened up and he ate my cat." Dustin snapped back
The two teens' eyes widened. Steve raises an eyebrow and nods.
Madison removed her hand from her face, her eyes locked on Dustin. "That thing ate your cat",
Steve started to grow more skeptical. "You've seen this before?"
"Yeah, I helped look for his little pet inside the middle school. "Wait a second, you've had it this whole time." Madison suddenly realized.
Dustin slumped his shoulders on the chair, as he confessed "I didn't want Lucas to get mad at me."
Madison watched as Steve popped open the trunk and pulled out the bat with nails, her eyes widened in disbelief.
"What the Hell,"
He turned to Madison seeing her shocked reaction.
"Do you believe me now?"
The tension in the air was thick as they made their way to the cellar. Steve switched the flashlight on, the beam of light shining through the cellar. "Well, I don't hear shit."
Madison just shrugged, trying to act casual, "Me either"
Dustin felt a sense of dread as he stood in front of the cellar door. "He is in there."
Madison watched Steve place the bat against the door, hearing the metal screech. The silence felt eerie around them.
"Let me try!"
Madison slammed the door, making a loud bang echoing through the walls. He pointed the flashlight in Dustin's face, the harsh light making him squint.
"Alright, listen, kid, I swear, if this is some Halloween prank, you're dead.''
His eyes started to blink very fast from the light. "It's not. It's not a prank. Get it out of my face.'' He snapped
Madison crossed her arms as she watched Dustin and Steve.
