Jennie sat alone in the massive bedroom she shared with Rosé—shared, but never together.
It had been a week since their wedding, and Rosé had done everything in her power to remind Jennie that she was unwanted.
She came home late. She barely spoke. She didn’t acknowledge Jennie’s presence unless absolutely necessary.
And Jennie?
She endured it.
Because she had no choice.
Because she had hope.
But tonight, something inside her was breaking.
A Wife’s Plea
Jennie sat by the fireplace, waiting. The clock ticked past midnight, but she didn’t move.
Rosé would come home.
She always did—eventually.
And when she did, Jennie would try one more time.
The sound of the front door unlocking made her sit up straighter. Footsteps echoed through the hallway, and soon, Rosé stepped into the living room.
Her sharp eyes landed on Jennie instantly, a flicker of something unreadable flashing in them before disappearing.
"You’re still awake," Rosé muttered, taking off her coat.
Jennie nodded, standing up. "I was waiting for you."
Rosé scoffed. "Don’t."
Jennie took a step closer, hesitating.
"Rosé… can we talk?"
Rosé sighed, rubbing her temples. "About what?"
"Us."
Rosé let out a bitter chuckle. "There is no ‘us,’ Jennie. How many times do I have to say it?"
Jennie clenched her fists.
"But we’re married—"
"Because of business!" Rosé snapped, her patience running thin. "Not because I love you. Not because I wanted this."
Jennie flinched but held her ground.
"I know," she whispered. "But I still want to try."
Rosé’s expression turned ice cold.
"Try what?" she asked, stepping closer until they were just inches apart. "Try to make me love you? Try to make this some fairytale?"
Jennie swallowed hard, refusing to back down.
"I don’t expect you to love me, Rosé. I just want you to treat me like a person. Like your wife."
Something in Rosé snapped.
"You are NOT my wife!" she shouted, her voice echoing through the room.
Jennie’s breath hitched.
"You are just a contract—a burden my father forced onto me!"
Silence.
Jennie’s hands trembled at her sides, but she quickly hid them behind her back.
"Is that really how you see me?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Rosé’s jaw tightened. "Yes."
Jennie nodded slowly, biting the inside of her cheek to stop the tears.
"Okay."
Rosé frowned. "What?"
Jennie forced a small, shaky smile.
"Okay," she repeated. "If that’s how you see me, then I won’t try anymore."
Rosé’s chest tightened.
For some reason, Jennie’s words felt wrong.
She had expected Jennie to cry. To beg.
But instead, Jennie looked at her with the saddest smile she had ever seen.
And for a brief moment—just a second—guilt flickered in Rosé’s heart.
Jennie turned away first, walking towards the bedroom without another word.
For the first time since their marriage, she was the one who left Rosé behind.
A Love That Will Never Exist
Jennie sat on the edge of the bed, staring at her reflection in the mirror.
Her eyes were red.
Her heart felt heavy.
She had known from the beginning that this marriage wouldn’t be easy.
That Rosé wouldn’t love her.
But she had hoped for at least kindness.
Yet, Rosé had given her nothing but pain.
Jennie let out a shaky breath.
"I won’t try anymore."
She didn’t know if she was lying to herself or not.
Meanwhile…
Rosé stood in the living room, staring at the empty space where Jennie had just been.
Her hands were clenched at her sides, her heart pounding for reasons she didn’t understand.
Jennie had never looked at her that way before.
Never so broken.
And for the first time…
Rosé felt like she had crossed a line she couldn’t take back.
But it didn’t matter.
Because her heart already belonged to someone else.
And Jennie Kim would never change that.
