~I'll take that bet~
Before dawn came all 13 dwarves, my father and myself were all awake. They ate whatever food Bilbo had left. There were 14 pony's, and one horse. That horse would be my fathers. I had mine. Her name was Kez. She was strong and is about the closest thing I have to a sibling.
She held all of my belongings.
Because I have moved around a lot I can never keep much with me. As the Dwarves moved out and onto the road I looked back to Bilbo's home. I believe he will join us. My father and Thorin rode at the front. Thorin had a kingly-ness to him. He looked regal and devin like a king should. But he also looked lonely. You could tell just by looking at him that he carries a lot of worry. My mind began to look at the others in the company.I am not going to name everyone in the company but they all seemed like brothers. None of them looked alike but in a strange way they were connected. 2 stuck out to me. Filli and Killi. Yesterday they told me they were Thorin's nephews. Filli was the eldest of the pair. Kili, the brother I had met yesterday, was almost tall enough to get his own horse. "What do you lads and lass say about taking a bet on mr. Billbo?" Asked Dwalin. The company paused. "How much?"Asked Gandalf.
"Eh let's say 30 silver." Replied Dwalin. "I'm in!" Said Bofur. "Count me in!" Shouted Nori from the back. "Ok! Who wishes to bet that our burglar will show up?" I raised my hand along with Gandalf, Bifur, and Gloin. "All right folks. I assume that the rest of ya are betting on Bilbo not joining us?"said Dwalin happily. "We must keep moving forward." Said Thorin, him and his pony trotting ahead. "He's no fun huh." I whispered to Killi. "It seems like that but he can be kind sometimes." There was a chuckle in his voice. I smiled.
Kili and I talked. The midday sun was shining above. "WAIT WAIT!" Shouted a small voice. Everyone came to a stop. It was Bilbo Baggins. "I'd like to join your company. I-if you would all still have me. I bet I could come in handy with dragon business." He said, trying to catch his breath. "Welcome aboard Mr. Bilbo Baggins!" Said one of the dwarfs as Bilbo signed the contract. "I believe that some in the company are owed 30 silver!" Shouted Gloin. All of us who were owed were given our silver.
Bilbo was given a pony. However I do not think he enjoyed it. "How come you betted on Mr. Baggins joining us?" Asked Killi. "I had an incredible feeling that he would change his mind. Also I had some hope. I think if someone so small can help you get your home back then maybe there is a way I still can be useful to middle earth." It was just so easy to talk to Killi. Our traveling came to a stop later in the evening. We were well out of Hobbiton and the shire as well.
We set up camp and I took watch for the night. I had found a very tall tree that overlooked about 100 miles as the crow flies. As the sun melted into the earth I felt something hit me in the back of my neck. When I turned it was Killi. He motioned for me to come down. So I did. He had a bowl in hand. "Gloin made stew. Your father wanted me to bring you some." There was a smile in his eyes. "Cín verui kind. Im was verui hungrui." I smiled at him. Confusing looks grew upon his face. "I am sorry but I don't know anything of what you said." I took the bowl of stew out of his hands. "I said that you're very kind. And that I was very hungry."
The evening breeze blew through his hair. A moment passed. "Would you like to keep watch with me? You can say as long as you like." I blurted. He grinned. "Ast jeg skuld jikablith ilv join tho." He chanted. I knew every language of middle earth. " Jeg bet tho didn't bekna jeg knew etta language." He turned red. " I have many talents." A smirk came to my face as he turned a light but dark red.
We sat lower in the tree together. We just talked. The stew wasn't very good but I ate it anyway. Small animals were chasing each other. I put my hair in a low loose braid that lay across my shoulder. Never would I think a dwarf could be so kind to someone like me. My whole life I have kept everyone at arm's length but Killi, he was just different.
The night was now old and Killi was sleeping on my shoulder. Dwarfs didn't have the same strength as Elf's I guess. As he slept my brain was wondering about a person I had shut out completely. It was my first real friend. He was the only person I had ever known other than my father. (I don't count other high elves and men as people I know) He was named Duveus. A elf boy who held great power. He was the bastard child of the king of Mirkwood. Not king Thranduil however.
Duveus was older than me but we got along. I met him when Gandalf had taken me with him to a grand elven gathering. Duveus was there with his mother. His mother worked for the royal family her whole life. Only he and his mother knew what he was. He betrayed me soon after we met. I had told him a secret that my father told me never to tell anyone. Duveus told everyone he knew. I have not spoken to him in at least 5 thousand years.
My head came back when I felt Killi climbing down the tree. Morning was almost set. It was time to pick up everything and continue. I have kept tabs on Duveus. He has a wife and children. He works as a carpenter. I believe that he is also getting himself tangled into dark business. Little did I know he would become one of the most evil people to ever walk middle earth.
