Deer in the headlights. Have you heard that phrase before? If not my condition is exactly similar to that now.
Both my best friends are looking at me as if I have to answer each of their questions. None of them questioned anything. They gave statements.
One said that we are behaving like a couple and the other said that we are behaving like friends. Now both of them are waiting for my reply. Do I have an answer to those statements? I guess not.
Thankfully I got saved by the sudden opening of the door. It's that girl Preethi.
"Hey. What are you guys doing here? Everyone is waiting for you downstairs. Come. Or else we will be late for lunch." She shouted coming inside my room as if she had the right to do that.
I am sitting beside Shres on the bed and Sameer is standing on the other side of the bed with my towel in his hand. Preethi came inside and went straight to Sameer without looking at us.
"You are not yet ready? I thought you were getting ready for our lunch and exhibition." She said with a pout and she was so close to him. There is hardly any distance between them. Is it mandatory for people to stand that close when they are talking??
Sameer didn't respond to her questions and continued wiping his face and neck with my towel as if that girl was not standing that close to him.
I turned towards Shresta and with a voice enough for them to hear I asked her " How are they behaving then? That situation comes under which category? Friends or? " I didn't complete that statement because Shrestha started laughing as soon as I said those words.
I heard a groan from Sameer from my backside and turned to look at him with a smile on my face. Preethi is completely clueless about what the hell is happening among us. And I am not going to explain to her anything as I am completely enjoying her stunned face.
My smile turned into a smirk. Maintaining eye contact with my so-called friend I asked him " First tell me what this looks like and then I will answer whether we are friends or not." He glared at my statement. I am not done yet. " And by the way, if the answer to your previous question is yes I have another friend in this same house. Does that mean I can do all those things which we did with him as well?" I asked him and his glare turned to an angry stare.
If looks can kill his looks will burn me alive. He is grabbing that towel so hard that I felt like it would get burnt because of his hard hands.
Talking about my other friend as if on cue Anurag came inside my room. He knocked once on my door even though it was wide open because of the entry of that rude girl a few minutes before. That's the kind of gentleman my best friend is.
"Hey. Sorry to interrupt whatever the hell this is. But it's late. We are hungry. Whoever is coming to this room is getting stuck here. So I came prepared with my squad." He said and smiled looking at me.
I got up from the bed without glancing at the fuming person behind me. I moved towards Anurag and saw that Saira and Karthik were behind him. With a smile on my face, I replied " It's nothing. This is just a friends reunion. And just now I was talking about you and you came here as if you heard my words."
That made his smile grow and he leaned a little forward and whispered with voice enough to be heard by all the people in this room." I can hear you from anywhere in this world doll. It's called telepathy. It works every time because I will hear your words with my heart instead of my ears."
I smiled in return for his cheesy statement. I heard a groan from the backside of the room. I am sure how Sameer must have felt after hearing this immediately after my previous question about my behavior with Anurag in this home. But I didn't turn to see his face or notice his reaction.
"God. Too cheesy. Come let's go and eat something." Shresta responded from the bed making us chuckle together. With a smile on his face, Anurag turned along with Karthik to leave the room.
Shresta came beside me and making sure no one else hears she whispered " No one in this damn house is behaving like friends. Not even one single person. Everyone is flirting and I am not liking one percent of this."
I laughed at that comment even though she pointed as well in that pretty rant. Shaking her head as if she couldn't cope with me she left the room. When I was about to leave the room I felt a hand on my shoulder making me turn around coming face to face with Samy.
"I know what you mean when you said those words about being friendly with him. Don't even think about that angel. Forget about making me mad you are going to give him hope again. Don't repeat that mistake." He said and as usual, he didn't try to reduce his voice.
I can see the question mark face on Preethi who is standing behind him not leaving the room still. But what made me angry was the person standing behind me. It's Saira.
He doesn't even bother that his fiancee is standing right behind me. Forget about Preethi. She is no one when compared to Saira. I am not sure how much she knows about our trio friendship.
How dare he make me look bad in this scenario and how dare he make me feel like I did something wrong all those years ago? He never understood our plain friendship. He was always jealous when he saw me with Anurag but that doesn't mean I made Anurag feel more than friendship towards me.
"I told you before and I am telling you again. He likes me as a friend. A real friend. Not the way you deal with the word friend. He doesn't romantically flirt with me. That's his care. He cares for me and he wants me to be happy. He made sure that I was happy and you know to what length he can go to make me happy." I snapped without taking a break.
I didn't wait for his reply and turned back to look at Saira. She was standing there not knowing what to say or what to do. I pity her. I smiled at her even though I was very angry as she was not the reason for my anger.
I went down leaving three of them in that room without turning back to see if they were following me or not.
Sameer's POV:
She is angry. I know that. I made her angry. But what she said before is not something I can overlook. Maya is a woman who can do anything if she wants to prove her point. And she is right about one thing. I should not use the word friend after what we did yesterday and today.
Saira is still standing at the entrance of the room beside the door. Preethi is standing behind me without attempting to go outside as if she is waiting for me to go first.
Saira looked at Preethi and said " You can go down and wait with them. I have something to talk about with my fiance." There was a hint of glare in her eyes when she said the word fiance.
I don't have to turn back to see that Preethi is shocked to know this news. Anurag didn't introduce us as a couple when he made his introductions. That's the reason she has been flirting with me nonstop from yesterday. And I allowed her to do that without clearing things.
She waited for some more time waiting for me to speak. When I didn't even turn to look at her she stomped her foot and left the room after glaring at Saira as if she killed her pet.
