"Hee hee"
I've literally watched so much anime that every time I go to write ceiling, I almost write ciel-ing. As in Black Butler. I actually have to pause and think about it.
Might just be my dyslexia though-
It was the next day and Y/n was silently praying that no one would actually come bother her. She laid around in the infirmary bed, staring up at the ceiling, counting the little dots on the texture of the ceiling. She sighed softly, bored, but it was better than having to explain to Ferid what had happened.
Y/n heard footsteps walking towards the closed door of her separate room. Quickly, she pretended she was fast asleep, closing her eyes and relaxing into a sleeping position on his side all curled up, the blanket hiding her face up to her nose.
The door opened and Y/n could barely make out a second pair of footsteps.
"-Well, Y/n seems to be doing a little better, but I can fathom she still physically feels terrible," she heard the doctor, who she had learned his name was Red. It did quite suit his ruby colored hair.
She heard a familiar voice hum before sighing, "Is there anything else you can do?"
"I'm afraid not. There is only so much you can do for humans and their immune systems. She just needs lots of bed rest, and to not push herself too hard, but she is free to leave the infirmary here," she heard physician Red say.
She didn't hear Ferid respond before she heard the doctor speak up again.
"I'll give you some alone time," the doctor said before Y/n heard the door close, presumably having left.
After a minute Y/n felt the bed dip down in front of her before she felt a warm hand gently caress the part of her cheek that wasn't covered with the blanket. It would have been relaxing if she wasn't pretending to be asleep.
It felt like an eternity before the person spoke up.
"My dear..." Ferid's voice called lowly with a soft chuckle, "Pretending to be asleep might work in fooling humans, lovely, but it can't fool a vampire..."
Y/n heard his words, but she hoped the noble was just playing. She slowly brought the blanket up a little more, only her eyes peeking out now, but they were pretty hidden by her hair in her face.
"Y/n," You could hear the smirk in Ferid's voice as he tilted his head, "I can hear your heart beating, and you're breathing as well. Your heart wouldn't be beating this fast if you were asleep, and your breathing would be evened out."
Y/n peeked her eyes open and slightly looked up to see Ferid's scarlet eyes piercing her own. Now knowing that Ferid knew she was awake, she relaxed to the vampire's touch as his pointer finger lightly pulled down the blanket from Y/n's face a little bit to continue caressing the side of the girl's face.
After a little while, Y/n finally said something.
"That normally worked..." she mumbled.
"Pretending you were asleep?" Ferid smiled.
"Yeah..." Y/n's voice was barely audible, "I'd pretend I was asleep in the back of the car when I was little so my dad would have to carry me in the house..." Y/n recalled.
Ferid laughed softly, "And it worked?"
"Ninety-five percent of the time, at least."
Ferid smiled, his ungloved hand going up to run through Y/n's soft hair.
"Do you have any kids?" Y/n asked, figuring as Ferid was pretty old.
"Hmm..." He thought, "It's complicated... Why?"
"You're over a thousand years old."
"Good point," the vampire chuckled before taking a minute to think.
"It's different. New vampires aren't brought into this world how humans are through reproducing. They start as human and are turned with a vampire's blood," Ferid explained, "I suppose I did turn Crowley, but-"
Before Ferid could finished Y/n cut him off.
"Crowley... the red- and brown-haired vampire is your son?" She asked in disbelief.
"Yes and no," the progenitor laughed, "I turned Crowley using my sire's blood, not my own. Technically he is my brother, but I've never heard of a vampire being anything more than very good acquaintances. Our shared sire discarded us, so I taught him the quick roles of being a progenitor eight hundred years ago and that was that."
Y/n was quiet for a little while, taking it all in, "That's depressing."
"Why?" Ferid asked with a goofy smile.
"You have a brother and don't even bond..."
"Vampires have very different emotions than humans do."
"Still doesn't excuse it. Your weird."
"But we don't feel things like sibling connections, like you do. We have very little desire to settle down or start a family."
"Still weird."
"To us it's not."
"Not once?" Y/n asked, "Not once have you ever wanted a family?"
"It's not something I have thought about a lot," Ferid answered truthfully.
Y/n hummed, silence falling over them for a moment.
"Do you think about family often?" Ferid asked.
Y/n shrugged. "Every day..."
The vampire was a little surprised, "Every day?"
"Mhm... I miss my family, even if I didn't talk to them for almost a year straight... some other younger kids here made their own little families, but I didn't."
"Why didn't you?"
"Nobody wanted to be family with me because I'm older. A year ago, a few kids tried to make me their parent, and have me protect them, but they didn't like the answer when I said there was nothing I could do against vampires, since I'm still a kid..." Y/n explained.
"What about starting your own family now?"
Y/n thought about it, "I'm only seventeen. I want to savor what little bit left of being a kid I have."
Ferid hummed.
After a few more minutes of silence, Y/n giggled softly.
"Although, when I was little, I always said I wanted to have five kids and six cars and a big house," she recalled with a soft, melancholy smile, "Although I would just be happy now to have a home and one person who was there that I didn't have to worry about losing..."
Ferid stayed silent as he just stared at Y/n.
