Chapter 15

Ava's POV

"Goodbye, Jackson Bates." The moment seemed to be engraved in my mind. I closed my eyes and I saw his face. My whole body hurt while I layed in my bed. My eyes had ran out of tears to cry a while ago, now I'm just a blob. After the fight, I stayed home for a the weekend but when Monday morning came around, I needed to go to work, the only thing I still had left. I hadn't seen Keeley in a while but she sent ice cream and pizzas to the house. Monday was hard, I dragged myself into the office, puffy eyed and heartsick. I kept to myself for the most part, talking only when spoken to. Lola stopped in to talk to me and ended up staying through lunch.

Day after day I continued with this pattern, not giving 100% to my job or my friends. One day, about a month after the break my boss called me into his office.

"Collins, what's going on. You haven't pitched a good idea in weeks and the progress you make is lacking."

"I'm sorry sir, I'll start doing better." I put my head down like an ashamed dog.

"Is this about the football player?" He asked, I looked up at him, how did he know about Jackson? He didn't even let me answer before continuing.

"Yes, I know what happened, when New York's favorite quarterback starts playing like shit, there is always a girl behind it. I know for a fact that you and him had something going on."

"Does everyone blame me?" I asked, maybe I didn't want to know the answer.

"Well that is what most people think, but he said he had some family issues and that it had nothing to do with you." What? He had a family problem that I didn't know about, why didn't he tell me. Oh that's right because he never tells me anything about his family. This conversation was putting me in an even worse mood.

"Its a load of crap if you ask me," I looked at him in question.

"Listen Collins, you need to get back out there, find someone that is a little less fast past."

"Sir, I don't know if I could move on so.."

"I didn't say you had to marry the guy, but at least get out of the house, Understood?"

"Yes sir." I exited his office and grabbed my cell phone. I knew I wasn't ready to take on another serious relationship but he had a point. When I got outside I dialed Keeley's number.

"Hey girl! Long time no see!" She squealed into the phone.

"Yeah I know, I've been pretty busy."

"Well that is quite fine, what's on your mind girl?"

"You, me, the club on 4th, tonight. Good?"

"Sounds great, pick you up at 8." I loved my best friend, she didn't even need to ask any questions to know what was up. I got back to my desk and for the first time in a month, started working on a story.

From a block away you could hear music from the club thumping. We crossed the busy New York Street and stood in line at the club. Tonight I decided on a silver sparkly dress with straps. I wore silver peep toes heels that made me look about 6'4 boy was that a mistake. It was freezing out here and I had nothing on my legs. I was smart enough to know that the clubs are hot and you cant wear pants of anything of that nature. We were next in line when the bouncer looked at us.

"Hey, your that Ava girl, Jackson Bate's ex girlfriend." He said in a deep voice. Murmurs started around the line as everyone looked at me.

"Yes, that's her, can we go in now?" Keeley asked, He nodded and opened the rope for us. The club was loud and dark, bodies pressed against each other, grinding and twerking. Some couples were making out on the dance floor and on some couches.
