Chapter Ten: Letter

Days have passed and Mia was no where to be found. Unfortunately for Alvaro, he was in a coma from the gun shot wound that ended up close to his heart and him losing a lot of blood from when we found him. Luca and the others watched me pace up and down and we had Dante checking cameras around surrounding buildings from the night Mia went missing.

We had so little to go by since there wasn't much around the area. I haven't slept in days and I worried day and night trying to figure out where to look for Mia next.

"What if— what if we check that area again where we found Alvaro?" I asked.

"Mateo, we checked that surrounding area twice during the day and there was nothing to be found." Said Carlos.

"Moretti I think you should go take a shower and snooze for a bit. We'll keep trying to find where Mia is." Suggested Luca.

"How the fuck can I relax when the woman I love is missing?!" I snapped.

"That's YOUR fucking daughter Luca! How can you be so calm?!" I continued.

Before Luca was about to say anything, Cardo came running in with an envelop. It was a an envelope that had my name written on it. I took the envelope from Cardo and began to impatiently tear it open. Inside was a letter and it was Mia's writing.

ℳ𝒶𝓉ℯℴ,

𝓉𝒽𝒶𝓃𝓀 𝓎ℴ𝓊 𝒻ℴ𝓇 𝓈𝓉𝒾𝒸𝓀𝒾𝓃ℊ 𝒷𝓎 𝓂ℯ 𝓉𝒽ℯ𝓈ℯ 𝓅𝒶𝓈𝓉 𝒻ℯ𝓌 𝓂ℴ𝓃𝓉𝒽𝓈, 𝒷𝓊𝓉 𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓃𝓀 𝒾𝓉'𝓈 𝓉𝒾𝓂ℯ 𝓉𝒽𝒶𝓉 𝓌ℯ ℊℴ ℴ𝓊𝓇 𝓈ℯ𝓅𝒶𝓇𝒶𝓉ℯ 𝓌𝒶𝓎𝓈. ℯ𝓃𝒿ℴ𝓎ℯ𝒹 𝓉𝒽ℯ 𝓉𝒾𝓂ℯ 𝓌ℯ 𝓈𝓅ℯ𝓃𝓉 𝓉ℴℊℯ𝓉𝒽ℯ𝓇 𝒶𝓃𝒹 '𝓁𝓁 𝓃ℯ𝓋ℯ𝓇 𝒻ℴ𝓇ℊℯ𝓉 𝓉𝒽ℴ𝓈ℯ 𝓂ℯ𝓂ℴ𝓇𝒾ℯ𝓈. 𝒫𝓁ℯ𝒶𝓈ℯ 𝓉ℯ𝓁𝓁 𝓂𝓎 𝒻𝒶𝓂𝒾𝓁𝓎 𝓉𝒽𝒶𝓉 𝓁ℴ𝓋ℯ 𝓉𝒽ℯ𝓂 𝓋ℯ𝓇𝓎 𝓂𝓊𝒸𝒽. 𝒜𝓁𝓈ℴ 𝓉ℯ𝓁𝓁 𝒜𝓁𝓋𝒶𝓇ℴ '𝓂 𝓈ℴ𝓇𝓇𝓎 𝒻ℴ𝓇 𝓈𝒽ℴℴ𝓉𝒾𝓃ℊ 𝒽𝒾𝓂. 𝒟ℴ𝓃'𝓉 𝒸ℴ𝓂ℯ 𝓁ℴℴ𝓀𝒾𝓃ℊ 𝒻ℴ𝓇 𝓂ℯ; '𝓂 𝒻𝒾𝓃ℯ, 𝓅𝓇ℴ𝓂𝒾𝓈ℯ.

ℳ𝒾𝒶 𝒮𝒶𝓁𝓋𝒶𝓉ℴ𝓇ℯ.

I dropped the letter and turned the empty envelope upside down. It revealed the engagement ring that I gave to Mia. I couldn't believe my eyes and what I just read. I blankly stared at the ring. Luca picked up the letter and his eyes grew wide.

"Wh—what am I going to tell her mother?" Said Luca. To be honest, I've never seen Luca in such a state before. He was worried and his eyes filled with grief.

"This can't be true.." said Carlos.

"I'm going to look for her." I said.

"We're coming with you." Said Luca.

We spent the next few days in Panama looking for Mia and Ryder. When the days add up, we've been here for about 2 weeks now. Esme was beyond devastated, but had hope that we would find Mia and bring her home. The last of what we heard was that Ryder fled and went into hiding again, disappearing which made it even harder to find him. Our main focus was Mia, but things have been quiet and nothing turned up.

"I just got off the phone with Esme. She too, has received a letter from Mia and it's her writing. I really think Mia doesn't want us looking for her." Sighed Luca.

I ran my hands through my hair in frustration. Luca put his hand on my shoulder and I looked up at him.

"I really think she doesn't want us to find her. Maybe it's better this way, at least Ryder won't find her either. She's bound to come home when things cool down." He continued.

I knew this was something I had to do. In order to keep everyone safe. Writing this letter was possibly the hardest thing I could have ever done. "Ready to go?" Asked Donavan. I nodded as I quickly began to lick the envelope and seal it close. I followed him as we headed down the hall.

"What is it that you want me to do exactly?" I asked.

"Well, you're going to be kind of be like my personal hit man. Stealing shipments, collecting debts, etcetera." He said.

"Why the hell do you need me?" I questioned.

"For starters, everyone will fear you, especially knowing that you are the daughter of the most well-known mafia leader in the world. And again, if you don't help me, I can easily end your family one-by-one and starting with your mother." He answered.

"I'm nowhere capable of doing any of that anymore." I said. I obviously wasn't lying. Being kidnapped has really messed me up.

"Oh don't worry, we'll make sure you're prepared." He said smirking.

I gulped. This does not sound good.

3 YEARS LATER..

"Mr Moretti!" How do you feel about your grand opening of a new hotel?" said one reporter.

"Honestly it feels amazing to open yet, another successful hotel. We try to go above and beyond at the Moretti Hotels to give our guests the best experience possible." I replied smiling.

"And how about you Ms. Aurora? Knowing that you are about to be married to one of the richest men in the world?" Asked another reporter.

"Please darling! I'm not in it for the money. I'm just glad that my fiancé has become successful in opening his new hotel." Aurora replied, smiling.

The reporters all began to speak at once, yelling for their questions to be heard and answered. "That'll be enough questions." Said Ivan. The reporters all began to yell their questions again, trying to get my attention. I stepped down from the podium with my hand wrapped around Aurora's waist.

It's been about 3 years after Ryder disappeared in Panama and not another word from Mia, or letter. It was hard and it took months to cope with not hearing or seeing her. Luca and I spent over a year trying to look for Mia, but things went quiet. Eventually Mia just became a memory. Her mother, till this day still has hope that one day Mia would just come home. Esme is a strong ass woman for that. I just wished I had the strength and hope she has.

I looked over to Aurora and seen she was talking to Ivan. I met Aurora Greco at the restaurant I took Mia to on our first date. Aurora and her family were having dinner at the restaurant when I met her. Her father is the CEO of a huge pharmaceutical company. It was just something about her. Her smell, the way her hair fell in front her face, the way she laughed and smiled. It was just something about her that I couldn't put my finger on that had me completely drawn. I looked down at her left hand and seen the emerald ring that I had once given Mia.

"Babe? You okay?" She asked as she smiled at me. I was so deep in thought.

"Yeah I'm fine. Let's go back home." I said as I took her hand.
