After me and Hero walked out of the house, we both got in the car. I was in the passenger seat, and Hero sat in the drivers seat, but he didn't start the car. He just sat there lost in thought. Then he laid back, heaving a long but gentle sigh. I looked at him.
"Everything okay?" I asked him.
"Yeah, I just didn't sleep too well. But you don't need to worry about me." He replied, not making eye contact. "Did you sleep well?"
"I stayed up kind of late. But for a good reason!"
Hero looked at me and smiled. "Let me guess, you finished that book you're obsessed about? Even China could hear your sobbing."
I was silent for a moment. "Don't question my life support!"
Hero chuckled, but his smile faded after a moment or two. "It was... Pretty intense in there. Are you okay after what happened?"
"Me? Pshah, don't worry, that was nothing. Besides... I'm pretty we've been through worse..." I replied.
"I suppose you're not wrong..." Hero squeezed his arm tight for a minute, then he let go. "Let's get going."
Without saying anything else, Hero started the car and pulled out of the drive way. He looked like he didn't want to talk anymore, so I stayed quiet.
'Did I say something offensive?' I thought. 'Oh, who am I kidding... I probably did. why do I always mess up?'
It was an awkward drive. Me and Hero were alone in our own thoughts, even though we were right next to each other. I kept fidgeting with my shirt, and I couldn't help but wonder if Hero was mad at me.
Once we arrived at school, I grabbed my backpack and got out of the car. Before I shut the door, Hero spoke up.
"Kel, have a fun last day of school. Okay?"
After a moment, I smiled. "Already one step ahead of ya!" I saluted like some sort of knight, then I shut the door and headed towards school. I felt my smile fade. I had a bad feeling in my gut that today was going to fumble down the stairs real fast.
Right when I entered the school, I saw Aubrey walking down the hall as if she just got here too. Her black hair Was beginning to show. It used to be completely pink, but now the pink was more muted.
Ever since Sunny moved away, which was roughly over a year ago, Aubrey barely spoke to us. It's kind of funny really, it's like they swapped places. Sunny used to the be quiet one... Although he still kind of is.
To be honest, I didn't like it when Sunny shut himself away from us. It felt like betrayal in a way. I know he had his reasons, but it still hurts to see your friend drift off. And now it's happening to Aubrey. And what really makes it sting, is that I can't do anything about it.
"Oh, hey Kel." Said a familiar voice from behind me. I whipped around and saw a blonde boy with a flower in his hair. He had a warm smile on his face.
"Hey Basil!" I replied. "Whatsup'?"
"Nothing photo worthy, what about you?"
I smiled. "Well..." I wanted to say amazing, that I had an awesome time. But something caught my tongue, forcing me to stay quiet. Something was making think... Making me remember. The argument I had this morning... I remember Hero standing up for me from our parents.
