"Riley," I said, standing up while walking to the bathroom door, "are you planning on lying on the floor in there and crying all night?"

"What does it matter to you?" she questioned.

That was a "yes."

I rattled the handle. "Let me in."

"No."

"Are you going to hurt yourself?"

"I'm not SUICIDAL!"

"That's what a suicidal person would say," I commented.

I heard her groan in annoyance and slide down the wall, clearly sitting on the floor.

"Riley," I stated, "come out of there. Now."

"No."

"If you don't—"

"Then you'll punish me? Yeah, I know. But it's better to be punished later than to possibly scream at you because I'm so stressed out right now."

"Then scream," I stated.

"I'm going to say things I don't mean," she told me. "And you'll be hurt. So it's better for you to walk away now and go do something else."

"Riley."

"Don't try to reason with me, okay?"

"I guarantee I've been hurt worse," I stated.

"Probably, but you hated him."

My father.

I sighed, leaning against the wall. "Riley, come out of there."

"I will if you leave."

"I'm not leaving."

"Then I'm not coming out."

I dragged a hand down my face. "Can you not test me right now? My patience is wearing thin."

"And it should," was all she said.

I stared at the door then, blinking in annoyance. "I will pester you again until you unlock the door."

"And I'm turning on the fan," she stated. "See? Hear it?"

The fan suddenly came on after a click of a switch.

Fuck, now she couldn't hear me.

But... I kind of expected that.

I unlocked the door with a thumbnail, stepping in the bathroom seconds later.

Riley—once again—had her face in her knees, and there were headphones covering her ears as she kept the position.

I kneeled down beside her, lightly flicking her forehead.
