Happiness is just a visit
By Ms. EpitomeThe playground's foggy, it was a horrible sight to see. A girl is crying in the far corner, covering her face with what appeared to be a moldy towel.
Suddenly, a person emerge from the white mist, stopping into a halt before the girl whom merely look up and didn't stop crying. She can't guess who was it, a man or a woman? The person's figure was a blur but slightly bright.
"Come," said the person, it was echoing as though the person is far, far away.
The girl stopped crying and stared at the person, making her mind whichever she'll nod or shook her head. She nodded, she's decided. She didn't know why she done it.
The person held up a hand and the girl accepted it without further ado.
The person's hand is warm and comforting. She didn't felt fretting right after crying, even walking with a complete stranger.
They set off to a lonely path, yet she felt forebode-less.
Minutes later, the girl spot a building, a colorful building. The façade's full of face paintings, all smiling. The girl suddenly felt her heart sank, she remembered the reason why she's crying earlier. She abruptly felt envious about the smiling faces.
Unfair, she thought staring at it.
She hasn't been here even though she spent half her life exploring the village. Where is this place? What's or who's inside it?
"Explore it," the stranger urged her as though the stranger heard her thoughts.
She blink.
That's the first time somebody didn't stop her to persuade her wantings. She crack a vague smile and walk towards the door of the building.
As she entered, she felt a kind of eureka as though she succeeded something. It was a wonderful feeling, she thought as she look around. People's staring at her, all smiling.
She look around and to her astonish, she saw shelves of foods and a play space is next to it. The people are all beaming and waving at her, she felt a pang of happiness.
A friendly smile escaped her lips.
"Hello!" A girl about her age approached her.
"Hi," she replied shyly.
But the girl didn't seem to notice her shyness because she dragged her towards the play space.
"Wait here, I'll bring food," the girl said and left her to sit down.
Indeed, minutes later, the girl came back and brought a tray full of delicious-looking foods.
She enjoyed eating it and spent hours in there, playing, and chatted like she never chat in her life before. The people are nice and sympathetic. That's the happiest of her life that she thought it was just a daydream.
But it looks so real, feels so real.
"It's time to go home," a voice said as she ate the eleventh helpings of chocolate cake.
She glance at the owner of the voice, it's the person earlier. She blink and stared at the person.
Again, she don't know what made her do but she nodded and stand up. They set off towards the exit, she cast a last look at the building and follow the stranger.
"Why do we have to go?" she asked before she can stop herself.
"We don't have to go," said the stranger.
"I... I don't understand," she murmured politely.
"We can stay but happiness won't linger."
"I'm sorry, but I still don't understand," she said, genuinely confused.
The stranger stopped and face her, and that's when she realized they've reach the playground.
"Lassie, remember that happiness is just a visit."
The person walked away, leaving the girl still-struck with realization.
For, indeed, it is. Happiness is just a visit.
