Chapter 13

Y/N pov

I fell in love. I never believed in love before. Sure I have had previous relationships but this one is different than before. Those that came before I had to work at to keep some form of consistency going.

But with Lizzie. Well, being with her is as easy as breathing. It's breathing in that first brisk winter air. It's as refreshing as summer rain on a hot sunny day.

Loving Lizzie is what I'm supposed to do. It's my purpose in life. She is my soulmate. I didn't even think they existed until now. But somehow, I am always drawn to her. When we are apart, I want to be near her. I crave hearing her heartbeat so close to me. The sound of her voice is a song crafted by the angels. The sound of her laughter is as beautiful as a newborn baby's first cry.

I know one thing for sure.
She is my Love In The Rain, and I am going to marry her one day.

Lizzie's pov

It has been a few weeks since Y/N was shot. Chris has been sent down for 25 years. I still think it's not enough. My whole world is laying here, lifeless. The only way of knowing he is still here is the sound of the machines beeping. Telling me his heart is still beating.

"He should be awake by now." I told Colin who stood by the door.

"I know." He whispered. A tear slipping from his eye. I have watched as he has lost hope over the weeks. He thinks that Y/N's heart will give up, but I know that Y/N is fighting his hardest to survive. To come back to us.

"I need him to wake up." I whispered as I looked at his face. He looked peaceful. If it wasn't for the wires and tube, you'd think he was asleep. In a peaceful slumber just waiting to be woken from.

"I uh." Colin started as he moved from the wall beside the door. "I am going to check on some patients. I'll be back soon." I just nodded as he left the room. Leaving Y/N and I alone once more. I hated seeing him like this.

"Please come back to me Y/N." I whispered as I caressed his face. Feeling the stubble growing into a scratchy beard. "I need you to be here with me. We have plans for the future. You and I, and I kind of need the You to complete them." I chuckled tearily. "Just wake up. Your my ray of sunshine on a dull day."

I jumped when the machines started to beep frantically. Hearing him coughing and choking on the tube. Pushing the emergency button, which nurses all came running in. I moved to stand against the wall as they did their checks on him. Gave him a sip of water before they left.

I remained frozen. Tears in my eyes as I watched him smile at me. My heart beating rapidly inside my chest.

"You're my Love In The Rain." He spoke softly. A sob escaped me at his words as I stepped closer to him. Taking his face in my hands. Gazing into those eyes I have become to love so much.

"I love you so much." I whispered before I kissed his lips.

"Marry Me?" He said once we pulled away. "I know that this isn't the way this is supposed to happen, but with almost dying. I know I want to spend the rest of my life, falling more and more in love with you."

"Yes." I nodded as he still rambled on

"I still need to get the ring. Maybe I can just do over the whole proposal. Give you the one you deserve." I kissed him to stop him from talking.

"I will marry you." I told him. "I don't care about the ring or the fancy wedding. As long as I get to love you until my dying breath."

"God I love you so much Elizabeth." He smiled as he pulled me down for another kiss.

"You're awake!" We both pulled away when we heard Colin's voice.

"I'm awake." I stepped away as Colin lunged forward. Wrapping his arms around him. Hugging him close.

"I love you." Colin cried as he sobbed into Y/N's shoulder.

"I love you too brother." Y/N spoke shakily. I smiled as I decided to head out. Giving the two their privacy. I have had my moment with him as he woke. Happy to know that the man I see my future with is going to be just fine.
