I anxiously checked the clock on the wall of the garage.
I'm going to be late.
Eddy was taking his sweet time inspecting over my last car of the day. He should know by now that my work specifically was flawless. He did train me after all. He had his tongue stuck to his upper lip as he ran his fingers along the engine feeling for any leaks. It was fixed perfectly which he knew it would be, but still he tediously took his time. I impatiently tapped my foot behind him watching the seconds tick.
"Are you in some kind of hurry?" Eddy whipped around and asked as he wiped his hands on an old rag.
"I have a prior commitment, yeah," I tucked my hands in the back pockets of my work jeans.
"With the ginger?" Damien, one of the other mechanics, shouted from the back door, cigarette wedged between his lips. Eddy's eyebrows raised intrigued to know the answer as well, but I said nothing.
"You need to get your priorities straight, boy," Eddy reprimanded as he closed the hood of the car. "You did good work," he smiled and clapped me on the shoulder. "I know you've got plans, but I need to talk to you." He whispered into my ear then motioned for me to follow him into his tiny office which was stationed in the back of the garage.
Eddy ushered me in and then closed the door once I was inside. I had a seat in the extra chair wedged in the corner. He fell into his desk chair with a grunt then a sigh. He rubbed his knees under the desk and inched forward to rest his elbows on top.
"I'll keep this as brief as I can," he cleared his throat. "What are your intentions with my girl?"
"Your girl?" I couldn't keep my laughter at bay. "Since when is she your girl?"
"Since we shared a blunt," he taunted with a chuckle. "Fi seems good for you, Loge," he said more seriously.
"Please tell me this isn't what you wanted to talk about," I slumped in my chair with a groan.
"It's not, but I wanted to soften the blow before I told you to be careful around her."
"Be careful?" I asked sitting up slightly. "Why?"
"There was fire blaring from her," Eddy warned. His Trait allowed him to sense other Traitors, but he could also see their abilities brought on by the serum. "It was a bit concerning."
"That's just her Trait. She has some sort of pyrokinetic ability."
"No, this was different than any old Trait. Normally, the auras are in harmony with the person. Her Trait was like it was consuming her."
"Well, she hasn't been able to use it recently. Could that be why?"
"She can't use it? How does that happen?" Eddy was starting to ask questions that I wasn't sure I could give answers to.
"I don't know," I shrugged, "still trying to find the answer to that one." Eddy squinted his eyes and leaned back in his chair with a tsk tsk tsk.
"I mean it, kid. Be careful. She's a sweet girl, but there's clearly something wrong with her because she likes you," he joked.
I rolled my eyes and said, "Can I go?"
Eddy excused me from his office which I ran out with quick haste. I ran by the clock on the wall which notified me I was already late. I grabbed my stuff out of my locker and rushed to my car. I had clothes at the gym to change into so I didn't need to stop off at home to grab clothes. I swore as my tires screeched on the pavement due to the pressure I put on the gas pedal.
I had thrown my phone in my passenger's seat and it felt risky to reach over to grab while driving as recklessly as I was. Fi was just going to have to wait. I should've texted or called her before I got in the car, but I was more concerned about getting on the road.
