If Dahlia knew that following her brother into a war would land her an immortal life beside him. She would simply laugh, laugh in the face of whoever told her.

Now, she knows, following her brother into an active war ground wasn't one of her brightest decisions. She also knew that she would rather die than hear the solemn knock of the soldier who informed their mother of Garrett's death.

When Dahlia was younger, she remembered the night Garrett had told both her and her mother that he was fighting in the war. Dahlia was distressed at hearing her brave big brother utter the words upon his lips. She couldn't believe he was abandoning her.

That night, filled with betrayal, heartbreak, and anger. Dahlia had followed her brother, she packed necessities, and, as her brother rode off into the night, so did she. That night, everything changed. A mother was left alone, never to see her children again.

It had taken days before her brother arrived. Days, Dahlia hid in the woods nearby. No matter how long she wanted to hide and look over her brother, her supplies were running low. It was so low that she started rationing her supplies.

It was only when, one night, Garrett got handed a letter. The moon lit the night, as did the lamp that was sat beside him. The more he read the contents, the more unfocused he became. Dahlia, who had fallen asleep in a tree nearby, was awoken by the sounds of yells.

Dahlia's heart dropped into her stomach. It was as if time had stopped itself. Soldiers were yelling. The only words she could catch were something along the lines of, "he's gone, can't find him anywhere, sir."

Dropping down from her tree, to get a better look, she waited until all the soldiers had left her brother's tent before she went in. Upon entering his tent with a shaky hand, she was met with the sight of a clean mattress. The bed sheets were bundled at the end of the bed. Nothing. There was nothing. At least, that's what she thought. The white of paper caught her eyes as she shakily sat of her brothers makeshift bed. It was only a glimpse, but it was something. Something that would give her answers as to where her brother had gone.

Folding the paper open, she dragged her eyes over the words. Guilt seeped into her chest as the rain fell harshly to the ground outside.

My dear Garret,

if this reaches you, I would solemnly like to inform you of your sisters disappearance. It seems as if you leaving had impeded itself within her brain. It is a dangerous world, my son. I am not asking you to leave your post, but please try to look for her. I would never forgive myself if she was hurt. The love I hold for you both is more than anyone could possibly explain.
