Frankie took a step onto the lawn heading to the structure behind the house as he took his third step and placed his foot down there was a distinctive *click* noise.

"Stay back Andre! I think I just stepped on a land mine." Frankie looked down and could make out the bare outline of a circular object about 18 inches around.

"Don't move Frankie." Said Andre.

"I have an idea, get back behind the van, I'm going to form a shield right under my feet and that should keep the blast contained. I'm just not sure if it's going to launch me or not."

Andre moved behind the van, "Do it."

Frankie waved his hand and created a shield rune and activated it, the split second where the shield formed and the weight shifted on the mine felt like an hour.

The explosion rocked the area and sprayed the side of the fan with shrapnel, dirt, sod, and launched Frankie backward over the van. He twisted in the air and landed on his feet 20 feet away. His shoes had been blown off but he didn't seem any worse for it.

"Tricky bastard. I'll clear us a path." Frankie said as he rounded the van. He formed a push rune and launched it wide slamming it into the ground in a repeating wave towards the outbuilding. 7 more mines were detonated, shrapnel pelting Frankie's shield and the side of the van. Once he was finished there was a clear path 20 feet wide between the street and the outbuilding. The lawn was a cratered field of smoking dirt and turned earth. The side of the house and the front of the outbuilding were pelted with shrapnel and full of pockmarks and shards of metal.

They ran to the building and Frankie blew the door off the hinges from a distance, in case it had been booby-trapped as well. A shotgun blast was heard as the door launched into the room. Frankie and Andre entered the building and a timer mounted on the back wall stopped. 1 minute 34 seconds remained on the timer.

"Very good! You navigated the mines and the door faster than I expected." Came the modulated voice through a set of speakers located on the back wall. Frankie and Andre quickly surveyed the building. It looked like it had been a collector's car garage at one point, but had been cleared out. Near the rear of the building was a large summoning circle containing a titanic demon, nearly 15 feet tall and bristling with muscles, and covered in a thick layer of quills. As they watched a small box next to the circle deployed a mechanical arm and scratched a line through the edge of the circle, breaking the containment and freeing the demon. "Have fun!"

As the demon rushed across the building towards Frankie and Andre, Andre said, "Don't let the quills touch you, they're poisoned!"

Frankie activated his shield with one hand and his invisible hand of force with the other, launching it forward and slamming into the demon with the force of a speeding car. Quills splattered against the invisible force, broke, and scattered across the floor.

The demon was knocked back and Andre circled around to its left, creating a blade of force he chopped at the demon leaving a deep cut in its torso and causing it to cry out in pain. Dozens of quills launched from the demon where it had been cut and Andre had to dive out of the way and he landed prone a short distance away.

Frankie dropped the invisible force on the demon from above and it landed like a steam hammer, rapidly pummeling it one strike after another knocking it to one knee and causing quills to scatter and smash against his shield.

Andre got back to his feet and cast an icy rune under the demon, causing it to slide backward and land on its back as Frankie continued pummeling it.

Frankie switched the force from a pummeling fist to a razor-thin blade and sliced down with great force severing the demon's left arm from its body.
