Amane Misa, who was accustomed to having acquaintances, not friends, found solace in her penpal from Los Angeles.

Misa was set up with a girl named Alexandra Kent. In her, Get to Know Me, paper, she preferred the name Alex, and revealed she was an only child. They were the same age. Alex was sportier than Misa, but she enjoyed shopping and getting mani pedis. She spoke about her best friends, Sam and Clover, who she had known since they were in diapers. Their mothers were close friends and graduated from the same high school they were currently attending.

Misa remembered she wrote in her, Get to Know Me , paper, that she was an only child as well. Maybe, this was why they were paired off together, but this didn't make sense. Many of his classmates were from an only child household. Having some shared interests might be the answer. Misa spoke about her interest in alternative fashion, liking makeup, cute aesthetics, sweets, and added that she knew more than one language.

They were also required to send a photo alongside the letter they sent. Misa sent a photo of herself wearing her school uniform. Her hair was styled into high ponytails while the rest was left loose. She wore minimal makeup, a more natural look that didn't look like makeup. Her school was strict in the level of makeup the girls were allowed to wear as well as the hairstyles. Misa didn't want to get called aside and forced to wipe away her carefully applied makeup because someone thought it was too much .

Alongside the letter was a photo of Alex, wearing her soccer uniform, but still appeared stylish. She had short black hair, clear and soft tanned skin, and bright brown eyes. Misa wondered if they could share skin care tips. Alex spoke about loving going to spas after a long week at school. Looking down at Alex's nails, they were shaped well with a neutral color. Misa did something similar but with a clearer neutral tint to coat her nail.

Setting down the photo on her desk, Misa cradled the letter in her arms, afraid to wrinkle it as she bounced up and down, excited as one can be about getting a response. Alex was so kind, and her calligraphy was legible, not at all unreadable.

Dear Misa,

I'm so excited to write to you. When my teacher, Ms. Kapri said we were having a penpal exchange, I was so excited to participate. I always wondered what Japan was like from someone who was born and raised there.

I'm sure you have a ton of questions about Beverly Hills. Which I will happily answer. No problem!

Before you ask, I don't know any public celebrities. My mom DOES know people, but this is because of her job. And she doesn't let me tag along with her because she thinks I'll ask for an autograph. Which I would do, but she should give me the benefit of the doubt!

Send me a letter soon!

-Alex. (heart)

"Micchan?" Her mother's concerned tone traveled up the stairs. "Is everything alright?"

Misa clasped her hands over her mouth to smooth down her squeals. She collected herself enough to leave her room and reassure her mother.

Grasping onto her door, Misa exclaimed. "I'm okay! My penpal responded to me!"

"Ah, okay."

Misa closed the door shut and jumped onto her bed. The responding letter was underneath her, making her roll over to prevent it from wrinkling.

"My penpal wrote to me!" Misa wiggled her legs up in the air before she sat up. " Oh! I have to quickly write her back!"
