“They all said so much stuff about you…” Marina was saying in a hushed tone. “People heard rumors and stuff from your old school from a girl named Victoria.”
Victoria? The memory of her skanky clothes and long chestnut hair rushed over me, leaving me feeling flustered.
Victoria was the meanest, nastiest, sluttiest, most obsessive girl in my old school. She despised me because I was best friends with Dalton (aka the hottest guy in the junior class).
She was utterly and completely obsessed with him… I heard a rumor she had a secret shrine to him in her room. No joke.
But, she always hated me and tried to get him away from me, even if that meant spreading rumor after rumor that I had certain “issues.”
One time, she told him that I had herpes. And of course he didn’t believe her because A) I’m a virgin and B) I would have told him.
I think the main reason why she hated me was because everyone could tell that I was in love with him, everyone, that is, except Dalton because he had always been clueless when it came to girls.
But, when I moved, things changed with him, just like everything else. We still talk, but I am not exactly sure how I feel about him. Plus, I have Zyan now.
“And they got pretty nasty and rude-and I really don’t want to repeat them.” Marina added quickly. I nodded, and I figured that I didn’t want to hear anything else about her and her psycho ways. Marina, after saying a quick goodbye, left me while I was getting my books and papers straightened out.
“Here, let me help you out.” Zyan came up in front of my desk and began sorting out a few papers into my binder.
“Thanks,” I mumbled, a little embarrassed that I could never do anything on my own with him around. I still had a weightlessness feeling in my stomach from all the contact with him. I really should ask him what that is sometime.
“There, all done.” He sounded like a parent who just changed their baby’s diaper. I looked up at him and felt my heart rate spike. He had a goofy grin plastered on his face and his eyes had a teasing twinkle in them.
I didn’t know how to react, so I stuck my tongue out at him. He looked amused before picking up all my stuff and carrying it out of the classroom with me trailing at his heels.
“So,” he broke the silence that fell between us when we arrived at my locker, “would you like a ride home?”
“Sure, if you want to give me one, that’s fine.” I smiled at him, quickly glancing at his eyes.
“Then I will.” He smirked, wrapping an arm around my waist as I pulled my stuff from the hooks in my locker. “Besides, I wanted to discuss something with your mother anyways.”
I gave him a weird look as he dragged me out of the school, all the while feeling those mini fireworks popping.
On our ride to my house, he just held my hand and talked about something in the science textbook that was wrong. I just stared at his expressions as he ranted about how “the book doesn’t explain enough about other galaxies.”
Occasionally, my eyes would trail down his entire body. I had to stop myself from biting my lip and giving myself away.
He kept looking over at me at the worst times, usually when my eyes were focused towards his ‘lower half.’
