One month later...
Max winced as Susan tugged in another section of her hair, her scalp stings with every pull. It reminded Madison of when her mom would do her hair when she was her age.
" Ow, ow. That hurts."
Susan's hands were steady as she worked on another section of Max's hair. She smiled slightly, glancing at Max's reflection in the mirror.
"It's going to be worth it. Promise."
As her mom was doing her hair, Billy stood there and looked at the Mayfield's. The two stared back as he walked away. "See, pretty,"
"Yeah, very pretty," Madison smiled at her.
"Yeah, Okay, Thanks" Max muttered.
Susan gently tugged the braid tighter, her eyes softening as she glanced over at Max.
"Now are you sure you don't want to wear a dress like your sister?
Madison walked back to her room, as she was done getting Max ready. The newest WHAM song, Last Christmas plays on the radio. She sang along to the song; it was quite catchy. She adjusts the matching red jacket on her shoulders. Madison picked out a pair of black boots in her closet and slipped them on. For a finishing touch, she put on a headband on her head.
She couldn't help but smile, it felt like she was getting ready for a first date or something, but it was really because it was Max's first dance. There were dances in California, but she never participated. But tonight is the night. Billy drove them to Hawkins Middle School, the whole ride was quiet, except for the occasional glances. Words weren't necessary, she didn't care to even try to make small talk, and neither did he. Twist Of Fate by Olivia Newton-John plays from the building.
They get out of the car; Max is just fidgeting with the sleeve of her sweater. She wasn't sure if she was excited or even nervous.
" So Max, are you dancing with anyone" Madison smirked
"Not really" Max replied flatly
Madison's grin widened at her reaction, however, lately there has been some sort of tension between Max and Lucas.
"How about Lucas, I saw you two holding hands. "Madison taunted
She noticed a faint blush on her cheeks, Madison continued to tease her even more.
"You like him, don't you?"
The blush on her face formed even more, she could feel her heartbeat speed up. Max had no idea what was going on between them, but it felt special. Of course, she didn't want to get all worked up on a boy, especially in front of Madison.
"Um, no, no,"
Madison raised an eyebrow at her, a teasing smile still on her face. She could tell she didn't want to admit her crush on Lucas, it was quite cute actually.
