I tried to sleep for the next two-ish hours. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't. The ideas echoed in my mind, wanting to be put into play. To be set free. To leave this place. To go back to my old life, my family and my friends. My life back, I need it.
I rolled over in the bed, moving over to the colder part. The soft pillow covering the sides of my head. I pulled the blankets over my body, my eyes falling every second, falling asleep. Maybe for the last time in this house. I hope so.
After what felt like hours, I slept, soundly. And when I woke up, it was pitch black out. The window and door were closed, something I had forgotten to do. That means someone checked in on me. They knew where I was. I rolled over, moving the hair out of my face, to reach towards my phone.
2:17 A.M. They were all asleep. They had to be. If there was a time to leave, it was now. They trusted me, they left me alone. If they didn't think I was gonna leave, they were fucking idiots. I jumped off my bed, making a thumping noise on the floor.
"Shit-" I whispered, trying to be as quiet as possible.
I creeped over to the dresser, going to look for some clothes I could change into. Digging through the cabinets I found some dark gray sweatpants and a black hoodie. I pulled them over the blue shirt I wore, and slid on my old tennis shoes that still smelled like ash and gasoline.
I pulled up my hair as I opened the door, creaking as I passed. I walked down the hallway, the fastest I could without waking any of the members up. As I passed, I eyed the doors, all closed. There were a few creaks from the floor, but they were small, they wouldn't wake up because of that tiny noise- right?
My body temperature dropped at least 10 degrees as I ran down the stairs, two at a time. The kitchen lights were on, so I crouched behind the couch as I passed through the living room. The house was terrifying at night, except it might just be my nerves. I'm sneaking out of a mafia base for god's sake.
I ran over to the door, past the entrance to the basement and the kitchen. The glass door let in the light of the moon, the navy blue sky against the treetops in the night. Through the glass the leaves in the trees were swaying in the winter breeze. I don't care if it's night, I don't care if it's windy, I don't care if it's winter. I'm escaping, and now.
I yanked the metal handle, trying to get out the fastest I could. But it was jammed shut. I pressed my foot up against the entrance, trying to pull back, but it still wouldn't budge. I yanked the door again, pressing all my body weight...
But I lost my balance.
I tumbled backwards on the floor, landing on my back. But also making a loud thud... I tried to sit up but two things stopped me. The pain resounding on my back and the footsteps from upstairs.
I tried to get up, but my body was frozen in place, full of fear. My hands pushed up against the cool ground, forcing my body to move. I have to get out of here, work harder stupid back. After a few seconds of struggling, I stood up again, yanking at the door.
"Hello?" A sleepy voice chimed from upstairs.
Shit shit shit shit shittttt- I don't care who it is, I'm leaving! I gotta do it!
After a few more pulls, the door was wide open, the wind blasting in my face. I ran outside, the adrenaline covering up the pain in my back, along with the fear in my body. I turned around, facing the place I had just left, when I saw a figure from the shadows in the kitchen...
"Who is that!? Sara is that you!?' He screamed, stomping towards the entrance.
I ran behind a bush, keeping a clearing so I could see who it was. He pushed past the open door, sandals hitting against the concrete path...
Bangchan.
"Sara!? Where the fuck did you go?!" He yelled, a sting of pain in his voice.
I peered out from my hiding place among the plants. He stood, messy hair, shirtless with bandages covering his chest. He wore black and red checkered pajama pants and some black slides. His face, red, with an emotion between anger and sadness. Something I couldn't name, on someone I never want to see again.
"Please... Make this easier for yourself, and step out. Each minute you stall is a week in the basement. I know you're here, don't try me." He growled, his eyes becoming 5 shades darker than their usual coffee brown.
"You've already racked yourself a big punishment - but do we want to add a week in the basement on top of it?" He joked, pacing around the yard. "Let's see- what punishment should you get? You tried to escape me- no us and thought you could get away with it. I know you're scared," he lowered his tone, "but this was the worst way to go about it."
I changed my position, trying to relieve the pain on my back. Going back to sitting properly. I winced in pain, a few tears falling down my hot cheeks. But I think Chan noticed, because he made his way in my direction. His body loosened, calming down. He was no longer the menacing man I had saw seconds before. He seemed, hurt-
"Now before I 'find' you; If you show yourself now, I'll try my best to convince the rest of the members not to keep you in the basement for the rest of your life. Please Sara, this is the only way I can help you." He offered, reaching out his hand, making eye contact with me. His body shook with an emotion I couldn't put my finger on. Was he sad? Angry? Disappointed?
I reached out my scratched hand in return. He grasped my hand, grip so strong you would think he was holding on for dear life. Pulling me up from the dirt with a strong pull.
"Please don't completely ruin me..." I cried as he quite literally dragged me inside by my hood, my body scratching the rough concrete
"Oh Sara..." He whispered, cupping his hand on my face, a few tears forming, "I'll try my best. But you have to learn your lesson. You can't get away from us just yet."
