Princess Everly lived in the village with her father, who was a Prince and the toy maker in the kingdom of Enchancia. He was also the best toy maker as people from neighboring kingdoms would come to Enchancia to buy his toys. They lived in a small living space above the toy workshop/store.

One day, Roland and Miranda were enjoying the peace and quiet while their kids were off playing.

Just then, Baileywick rushed into the room. "Sire, there's a situation in the village." He said.

"What is it?" Roland asked.

"The toy shop is on fire." Baileywick explained.

"The toy shop?" Miranda questioned.

Roland gasped in horror. "Robert! Everly!" He realized. "Baileywick, get the coach ready. Immediately!"

"Right away, sir." Baileywick said, rushing off.

"Stay here with the kids, Miranda." Roland said before quickly following behind Baileywick.

Everly was currently standing outside as she watched her home burn in horror.

"Dad?" She called, looking around for her father. She didn't see him anywhere. But, then she realized that he was still in the workshop. "Daddy!" Everly exclaimed as she ran towards the workshop.

"Everly!" Someone called. Everly turned around to see her Uncle, the King.

"Uncle Roland!" She said, running to him.

"What are you doing?" Roland asked.

"Dad's still in there." Everly said.

"You can't go back in there." Roland said.

"But." Everly continued as she attempted to pull away from her uncle.

Roland had a gentle, but firm, grasp on Everly's arm to keep her from running back into the workshop. "Everly, it's too dangerous." He said, holding her close to him.

The fire was dying down and the constable walked out of the workshop. Him and Roland looked at each other and the constable shook his head, indicating that the Prince hadn't survived.

Roland sighed, sadly. "How about you come back to the castle with me." He said.

"No!" Everly said. "What about Dad!"

"It's getting late, Everly." Roland said. "You can spend the night at the castle and we'll come back tomorrow."

Everly sighed and nodded. She followed her uncle to the carriage.

When they arrived at the castle, Amber and James just about bombarded her. "Eve!" They called, running over to her and hugged.

Everly was glad to see her cousins, but wasn't really in the mood. She just looked at her uncle.

"Kids, I know you're excited to see Everly and I'm sure she'll talk to you guys later." Roland started. "But, she's had a rough day and could use a little space."

The twins pulled away from her. Roland led her into the castle. "Everly, I'd like you meet Sofia and Miranda." He introduced.

"I actually already know them." Everly said.

"You do?" James asked.

"Miranda used to sew my dresses whenever they would rip." Everly explained. "I guess I should call you Queen Miranda now. Or Aunt Miranda"

"You are welcome to continue to just call me Miranda, if you'd like." Miranda said.

"It's good to see you again, Everly." Sofia added.

"You guys, too." Everly said before turning to her uncle. "Can I go to a room now?"

"Baileywick, would you show Everly to a room, please?" Roland asked.

"Of course, sir." Baileywick said. "Come along, princess." Everly followed him.

"I didn't know Everly was a princess." Sofia said.

"She's my niece." Roland said.

"So, she's a new princess like me?" Sofia asked.

"Not exactly. You're a princess through your Mom's and I's marriage." Roland explained. "Everly's father, who's my brother, is a prince. So like Amber and James, Everly is a princess through blood."

"Oh. I get it now." Sofia said.

A little bit later, everyone was waiting for dinner to be made.

"How bad was it?" Miranda asked.

"The outside looked pretty bad." Roland answered.

"What about inside?" Miranda asked.

"I don't know." Roland replied. "I didn't go inside. I'll check it out tomorrow."

"And your brother?" Miranda questioned. Roland was quiet. "I'm so sorry, Roland." Miranda said, putting her arm on his shoulder.

"Thank you." Roland said. "I haven't told Everly yet. I suppose I should go do that now."

He kissed his wife and headed to Everly's room.

"Everly?" Roland called, knocking on the door. "May I come in?"

"Yeah." He heard her say.

He walked in to see her sitting on the bed. "Are you alright?" Roland asked as he sat on the edge of the bed.

"I guess so." Everly replied.

"Are you hurt?" Roland asked, realizing he'd been so preoccupied before that he hadn't bothered to see if his niece was okay. "Did you get hurt at all from the fire?"

Everly shrugged.

"I'll have the doctor come by after dinner to check you out." Roland said. He took a quick look over her and saw she had a few burn marks.

"Listen, Everly." Roland started. "There's something I need to tell you."

"Is Dad alright?" Everly asked.

"Everly, I'm afraid your father didn't make it in the fire." Roland said.

"What?" Everly said. "You're lying."

"I wouldn't lie to you, Everly." Roland said.

"No! No!" Everly said, sobbing. "Daddy."

"Shh." Roland said, pulling his niece into a hug. "I'm so sorry Everly."

Everly cried into her uncle's shoulder.

"It's going to be okay." Roland assured her as he continued to comfort her.

Everly finally pulled away.

"If you're hungry, dinner's almost ready." Roland said.

"I'm not really hungry." Everly said.

"Alright." Roland said. "If you get hungry, you're welcome to join us."

Everly nodded and Roland walked out of the room.
